Whether you are looking for antique keys for collecting, decorating, or to use, here are some tips on where to buy antique keys. Antique keys are an interesting collectible and can be used in making attractive decorations and it is still possible to buy antique keys to fit locks in trunks, doors, and other hardware. Regardless of why a person is wanting to buy antique keys, there are a number of sources that buyers can use.

EBay

The first place to look for antique keys to be used for decorating or collecting is eBay. Sellers on eBay will list antique keys separately and in bulk as well as mixed in with other items. By doing a search for 'junk lot', 'junk drawer', or 'mixed lot' buyers may find mixed lots of items that include antique keys and possibly other items that will work with the collection or decorating theme. Other similar internet auction sites are possible sources for antique keys also. Reproduction keys (see below) will be offered on eBay as well, make sure you are not bidding on or buying them unless that is acceptable for your purposes.

Specialized Dealers

By doing an internet search for antique keys, skeleton keys, or similar terms a number of retailers will be found that either specialize in antique keys or devote a significant portion of their business to antique keys. These dealers are the place to look for working antique keys. When searching for working keys, any information that can be provided about the lock (manufacturer markings, size, shape, etc.) will be helpful.

Antique Malls

Antique malls that sell merchandise displayed by a number of vendors are likely to have at least a few sellers offering antique keys. Buyers should enquire about antique keys with sellers offering antique furniture, hardware and related items.

Flea Markets

Larger flea markets are likely to have some sellers offering antique keys. As with antique malls, asking vendors that are selling related items about antique keys can be productive.

Reproductions

Another option for buying antique keys is reproductions. A number of sellers offer reproduction keys for sale. These keys will typically be less expensive than original keys. An internet search for reproduction skeleton key will turn up a number of retail sites selling reproduction keys.
