Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma form the backbone of the U.S. energy industry, and the enormous oil refining capacity at the Gulf Coast translates into the fact that gas prices appear to radiate upwards from ground zero in Houston. Per the Texas Triangle, cheap gasoline is also par for the course in Fort Worth, as evidenced by private residents setting up shop and selling lease agreements directly to petrochemical companies in order to explore the Barnett Shale for fossil fuels.
In terms of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, Fort Worth and Tarrant County do represent a slower pace than the hustle and bustle of Big D. The abundance of land and smaller population densities translate into savings at the pump; and DFW locals commuting between the two hubs are best served to stop and gas up west of Highway 360 and the Tarrant - Dallas County line.
As of August 31, 2009, Fort Worth gas prices average out at $2.380. This bargain bin reading undercuts the U.S. Department of Energy's $2.613 national average by a wide margin. Consequently, saving gas money in Fort Worth is more so a function of which locations to avoid, than that of aggressively seeking out limited islands of cheap gas.
This guide will begin by exposing the most egregiously priced pockets for buying fuel in Cowtown, and close with our presentation of viable solutions per the affordable fuel matrix.
We do recognize the fact that the prices of all commodities fluctuate wildly from day-to-day. However, the very same demographics and politics, which promulgate cheap gas at present will remain relatively stable and translate into prices that are "less expensive than the next guy" going forward.
The term "cheap" is all very much relative.
Where NOT to Buy Gas in Fort Worth
Avoid buying expensive gas at the freeway exits that traverse Southwest Fort Worth. These critical conduits are signed as I.H. 35W, I.H. 30, and the 20-820 Loop. Obviously, all junctions onto the main highways of Dallas-Fort Worth are mixing bowls for traffic and gasoline buying demand. In terms of Fort Worth proper, the Southwest section of the city is associated with mass affluence and sprawling homes.
The combination of wealthy consumers, alongside major highways, is always a boon for expensive gas. Although the hefty price action may not burden the well-to-do locals, commuters into the area must learn to play the angles to avoid being gouged at the pump.
Gas price fare shifts between $2.45 and $2.50 at multiple points along the Southwest Loop - which is outrageous for the Lone Star State. Shell, Conoco, and Valero man Hulen Street, James Avenue, and Hemphill Street at I.H. 20 to peddle expensive gas.
Although property values fall north of the Loop at Hemphill Street, gas prices remain elevated due to the prominence of I-35W / South Freeway motorists making the connection into downtown from these well heeled outskirts. Gas prices will largely hold the $2.40 - $2.50 line within the Fairview - Seminary neighborhoods leading towards Central Fort Worth.
7-11, Shamrock, and Texaco occupy space along Hemphill Street at Southwest Fort Worth to hawk relatively expensive fare. Texans must also note that the elevated prices will extend due west into the leafy enclaves surrounding Texas Christian University.
Southwest Fort Worth commuters making the trek into downtown will exit off 35W and patronize Lisa's Food Mart at 2501 Hemphill Street for cheap gas. This location posts $2.29 to undersell the prevailing competition at the moment.
Beyond the Southwest Loop, affordable gasoline is the order of the day at Alta Mesa Boulevard off 35W. Race Trac, QuickTrip, and Shamrock are poised to reward smart consumers with $2.23 87-octane at the fringes of Edgecliff Village.
Where to Buy Cheap Gas in Fort Worth
Take your pick. Cheap gas is available for sale from all points Fort Worth.
Our goal is now to combine low priced fare and location to create true value for DFW motorists. Today, Hurst, Texas represents the most ideal municipality to buy affordable fuel within Tarrant County. Both I.H. 820 and Texas 121 - Airport Freeway skirt Hurst, which is conveniently situated between DFW International Airport, Dallas, and Fort Worth.
Dallas - Ft. Worth drivers will exit the freeway at Route 2039 - Precinct Line Road for cheap gas.
Murphy, Race Trac, and QuickTrip patrol Precint Line Road between Hurst and North Richland Hills to peddle bargain bin regular unleaded for $2.22 at the time of this writing.
Of course, legions of Texans may balk at the idea of navigating the legendary North Texas sprawl and congestion into Hurst. In addition to Alta Mesa Boulevard (Edgecliff Village - Southwest Fort Worth), which we alluded to within the prior section, gas prices and property values plunge significantly into Southeast Fort Worth.
Motorists will exit the I.H. 820 - East Loop at Route 180 - Lancaster Avenue towards Arlington for cheap gas. Big Oil Mobil is moving regular gasoline for $2.29 at 6701 East Lancaster.
Happy Trails.

Post a CommentGreat info. :-)
Thanks Kofi. I actually saw an electronic sign at one of the I35 exits changing prices every few seconds. It went from $2.38/gallon to $2.59/gallon and back and forth between the two prices. I guess they couldn't decide what to charge. LOL
Texas, Cool!
