Where to Buy Cheap Gas in Portland, Oregon

Buy Cheap Gas in North Portland - 5th Quadrant

Majestic Portland, Oregon is the third largest city in the Pacific Northwest behind Seattle, Washington and Vancouver, British Columbia. The city is quite proud of its heritage and tradition of incorporating nature with humanity. Portland, Oregon is cited as the "greenest" city in the United States and arguably, the world.

Of course, the dry summers, alongside the wet, temperate winter weather is ideal for growing roses. Indeed, the purpose of this guide is to ensure that cheap gas buying receipts follow the city's moniker and come up all roses in Portland.

Portland, Oregon gas prices average $2.745 for one gallon of regular grade gasoline at the time of this writing. The $2.745 statistics trumps the U.S. Department of Energy national mark of $2.647 by a wide margin. Still, "cheap" is a relative term and Portland gas is far less expensive than that of California and Seattle, Washington.

West Coast gasoline is always the highest in the Nation per the geographic distance and the supply disruptions that arrive part and parcel with the enormous distance to and from the Gulf of Mexico.

Regionally, prices are set per municipal tax policy, alongside access to economically vibrant zones and major highway interchanges, which are a boon for demand. According to The Tax Foundation, Salem pegs Oregon gas taxes at 25 cents per gallon, which dramatically undercuts the egregious Washington and California levies.

The disparate Washington - Oregon gas tax legislation precludes Oregonians from venturing into Vancouver, WA to look for cheap gas. Typically, gasoline is more expensive at The Evergreen State because of higher taxes.

Locally, Portlanders will recognize The 5 and 84 Freeways into downtown from the Southwest and Northeast quadrants as heavily trafficked corridors, which satisfy our imperfect equation for expensive gasoline. I must intimate that saving gas money is often more so a function of which areas to avoid, than it is of those to aggressively seek out.

The intent of this guide is to analyze the cheap gas proposal from two fronts. We will begin by exposing the most egregious locations to buy gas in Portland and close with viable options for drivers to purchase affordable fare.

I do recognize that gas prices fluctuate wildly over time. Again, "cheap" is a relative term and the factors that promulgate today's quotes will remain stable to generate fuel costs that are "less expensive than the next guy" well into the future.

Where NOT to Buy Gas in Portland, Oregon

Do not buy gas at The 5 - Baldock and 84 - Banfield in Southwest and Northeast Portland towards downtown. Portland drivers will recognize The Baldock and The Banfield as the most maddening bottlenecks into the commercial district. Certainly, the congestion allows for a spike in demand and supports lofty prices.

The NE Sandy Boulevard corridor and 84 Freeway entrance is a primary offender. 76, Chevron, and Shell are flashing $2.83, $2.89, and $2.91 at the Northeast approaches to The Banfield.

Portlanders must note that gas prices plunge east of I-205 and directly to the north of the 84 - Sandy confluence. Champion moves 87-octane fuel for $2.69 at Portland Highway and Portland International Airport.

Meanwhile, two separate ARCO gas stations along Halsey Street manage to peddle cheap gas for $2.65 outside of the 84 - 205 interchange.

The Baldock junctions traversing the Southwest Quadrant into downtown mark additional deathtraps for expensive gas in Portland. The South Burlingame Chevron at 8517 Terwillger Boulevard flashes $2.96, while Barbour Boulevard readings track the $2.80 reading from SW 30th Street into downtown.

Southwest Portland drivers will find that gas prices plunge immediately across the Willamette River per the Sellwood Bridge into Milwaukie. Regular gas breaks the $2.70 floor at 99E - McLoughlin Boulevard directly east of the river in upper Clackamas County.

Of course, accessing the Sellwood Bridge is often a difficult undertaking from all points Portland. West of the Willamette, gas prices will fall along Barbour heading south and west of the city into Tigard, Oregon.

Where to Buy Cheap Gas in Portland, Oregon

Cheap gas is for sale in the North Quadrant and Portland outskirts, such as Beaverton, Milwaukie, and the I-205 / East Portland Freeway junctions. Of course, ARCO is always the King of cheap gas fare on the West Coast.

The most convenient ARCO location rests at the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Lombard Street NE. Cheap gas is for sale at MLK for $2.63. Lombard and King Boulevard are key thoroughfares for cheap gas on both sides of The 5.

ARCO also mans the corner of N. Interstate Avenue and Portland Boulevard in the 5th quadrant to flash $2.63. Again, this stellar location is directly off The 5 Freeway in Portland.

Nike headquarters and Beaverton, Oregon is another bastion for cheap gas in Greater Portland. Low-priced fare is for sale at the confluence of Routes 8, 10, and 217 in Central Beaverton. Chevron, Texaco, 76, and ARCO man these crossroads to serve regular gasoline consumers for $2.65 per gallon.

Lastly, ARCO pumps bargain bin gasoline for $2.59 at Arlington Street and 82nd Drive in Gladstone. This location is tucked away, just off the 82nd Drive exits per The 405.

Our mission is complete; and we have now identified cheap gas options from all angles at The City of Roses.

Happy Trails.
