Where to Buy a Hamster Cage with No Bars

In terms of pets, hamsters are relatively quiet. Although they really don't make any noise on their own, hamsters can create noise by running on their wheel or by chewing on the bars of the cage. While the wheel offers healthful exercise for pet hamsters, it is not good for them to chew on the bars of their cage. A quick search online will tell you that chewing on the cage can cause hamsters to damage their teeth or even cause themselves brain damage. Sometimes, making sure a pet hamster has wood to chew on is all it takes to prevent cage chewing, but other times nothing seems to work. If you cannot get your hamster to stop chewing on the bars of his or her cage, it may be time to consider a cage that is made of solid plastic or glass and does not have bars to chew on.

Until recently, it was very hard to find a hamster cage with no bars. Most of the time, hamster owners just had to settle for placing their pets in large, aquarium type tanks which can be okay, but are not the best option for many hamsters. I searched and searched in stores, at flea markets, and online for a hamster enclosure with no bars, and I couldn't find one for the longest time. My pet hamster Peter ended up getting cancer and dying, so I didn't keep up the search after that. Then recently, a series of fortunate circumstances lead to me adopting another pet hamster. I knew that a cage without bars would be best for him, so I headed to the pet stores in my area to see if I could find anything that would fit the bill.

Then at Petco, I discover that there was a Petco-branded small animal starter kit that contained a very nice cage made of solid plastic without any bars. The Petco hamster cage came with a wheel, water bottle, and dish, so it was really everything that a pet hamster would need for a good life. There were even some tubes included for him to climb through, and the Petco cage was expandable with other tubes and modules made by other manufacturers. The price of the Petco cage was $49.99, which put it in line with other cages from Habitrail and SuperPet. So, if you are looking for a hamster cage with no bars, look no further than your local Petco store. If you don't have a Petco near you, you can order their hamster cage by visiting the website listed in the resources section of this article. My hamster has been very happy in his Petco cage, and I haven't had any problems with chewing on the bars which I am very happy about.
