Where to Buy Original Cracker Jacks in Tucson, Arizona

M. Sottosanti
Remember the song, which went something like:

"What do you want
When you gotta eat somethin'
And it's gotta be sweet
And it's gotta be a lot
And you gotta have it now?
What do you want?

... Cracker Jacks!

What do you get
When you open the top
And look inside
And smack your lips
And turn it over
And spill it out?
What do you get?

...Cracker Jacks!

Candy coated popcorn
Peanuts and a prize
That's what you get
In Cracker Jacks!"

Remember Sailor Jack and his dog, Bingo, on the box?

Remember those little prizes/surprises in the small red striped packet inside each box? Supposedly the prizes now are all new. I haven't seen them yet. I am saving mine - unopened - just like I did with most of them when I was a child.

One day I was browsing in Walmart's food section and I happened to see a 3-pack of those little boxes of Cracker Jacks I used to love as a child. Wow. Whenever I see something I used to love as a child, I light up with joy.

I had to buy them. Three small boxes, approximately 1 ounce in each box, was only $0.98. I couldn't wait to take them home and try them again and see the little prize inside each box.

They were just as delicious as I had remembered them to be.

I also realized that they are less in fat than any of the other caramel coated popcorn products, which was a plus for my heart disease. Cracker Jacks have 0 grams of Trans Fat, 0 grams of saturated fat and only 2 grams of total fat per ½ cup serving.

Of course I then went on a Cracker Jack craze and wanted to buy them when I went out again. That's the way it is with me. When I find something I like to eat, I go through a phase of always wanting them in the house. I immediately put them on my shopping list so I wouldn't forget to buy them.

Little did I know, conveniently finding Cracker Jacks in stores wasn't going to be an easy task. I thought for sure that every store sells Cracker Jacks. After all, why wouldn't they? Aren't they still popular?

My last option was to go back to Walmart even though it is not that close to where I live. I first wanted to look for them in stores closer to me in distance.

I first looked in Safeway, a local food store. I can't tell you how many times I went up and down different aisles in search of Cracker Jacks. No Cracker Jacks? I thought to myself, "How could they not sell Cracker Jacks?" I saw other caramel coated products, lots of different types of potato chips and pretzels, peanuts...but still no Cracker Jacks. I was going to ask an employee if they sell them but I knew I looked enough up and down each aisle and didn't find them, so they probably don't sell them. I was so disappointed that I was unable to buy Cracker Jacks.

While I was in the food store I forgot to buy a bottle of water for the drive home, so I decided to buy it next door in the Dollar Tree store. While in the Dollar Tree store I decided to look to see if they sell Cracker Jacks. I knew it was a long-shot in finding them there, but I decided to give it a try. Sure enough after searching up and down each aisle, I saw them in 4 ¼ ounce bags all the way on the bottom shelf. I was so excited to find them. I bought 4 bags of Cracker Jacks at only $1.00 per bag.

Those 4 bags of Cracker Jacks lasted me until I had to go out again. Back on my shopping list they went for my next day out.

On my next day out I shopped close to home again.

Before going into the Dollar Tree store to buy the Cracker Jacks I had to go into Walgreens. As I was browsing up and down the aisles I saw LARGER bags of Cracker Jacks in their small food section. These bags of Cracker Jacks were 7 ounces each. I was so excited to find bigger bags there and looked for a price. Luckily, this week they were on sale for 2 for $3.00. Their regular price is $1.99 each. I bought 4 bags on sale.

I no longer had to go into the Dollar Tree store that day for the smaller 4 ¼ ounce bags of Cracker Jacks because now I found them in a larger bag for just a little bit more in price.

My day was complete. I had my Cracker Jacks.

Now I know 3 stores - so far, that sell Cracker Jacks here in Tucson, Arizona.

They are:
Walmart - 1 multi-pack of 3 small boxes totaling approximately 3 ounces for $0.98;
Dollar Tree - 4 ¼ ounce bag for $1.00; and
Walgreens - Two 7 ounce bags for $3.00. Regular price - $1.99 each.

I just used the website: http://www.shoplocal.com to see if there are other stores in Tucson, Arizona that sell Cracker Jacks. The result was:
CVS - 1 multi-pack of 3 small boxes totaling approximately 3 ounces for $1.49 on sale right now. Regularly $1.99 each. Both these prices are too expensive compared to the prices I have found, in the other 3 stores.

My life is complete. I have my Cracker Jacks. I love re-living my childhood.

My sources are my childhood memories and a bag of Cracker Jacks.

OMG, that is sooo funny. I think those great prize days may be over. So far, every one I have from these recent purchases are flat - maybe fake tattoos. LOL
