Where to Buy Peacock Themed Halloween Costumes

A 2010 Shopping Guide

Lyn McCallister
Each year, the quest for your child's perfect costume begins with a simple question: what do you want to be for Halloween? One crowd-pleasing idea is to dress up as a colorful peacock. If you do not want to make your own costume, this shopping guide will direct you to three online retailers who sell fun peacock Halloween costumes.

Despite the fact that peacocks are male and peahens are female, these costumes are most often worn by girls, but are suitable for babies and boys aged 3 and under.

Gymboree's "Pretty as a Peacock" Halloween Costume

In July, Gymboree posted a Fall Preview lookbook on their website. Turn to pages 14 and 15 for a look at their gorgeous peacock costume for little girls.

The costume is a tutu style with a velvet looking tunic in a beautiful turquoise color. The skirt portion is made from layered petals in different colors including turquoise, blues, and purples. The petals on top have peacock markings.

The peacock feathers appear to made from a material similar to what you'd find on butterfly wings. There are three sections, trimmed in turquoise, with the peacock coloring on an opaque background.

These costumes will most likely appear in stores in the August timeframe and typically sell out well before Halloween. Prices are unknown at this time.

Chasing Fireflies "Pretty Peacock" Halloween Costume

This costume is currently available to purchase for $78 via Chasing Fireflies website.

This peacock costume looks like a better choice for older girls. It features a sequined, green bodice with long sleeves and a blue organza skirt. In this peacock outfit, the feathers are more realistic. The feathers are big and blue with peacock eye-like feather accents.

You can buy additional accessories including a headpiece for $20, a feather fan for $18 or a green sequin choker for $8. Leggings are sold separately for $18 for colder climates.

Babystyle Peacock Costume on eBay

Although Babystyle is no longer making their peacock costumes for infants and children, you can find them in great condition by searching eBay. The picture accompanying this article is the Babystyle Peacock in size 2t/3t.

You can find infant bunting versions of this costume on eBay as well.

The toddler version is great for boys or girls. It features a full body suit made from a soft, velour-like turquoise material. The tummy is slightly stuffed with bright orange, blue, and sea foam green stripes. The peacock head is actually a hat that sits on top of your child's head.

The feathers really make this costume stand out. The insides appear to be foam so that the feathers stick out and do not flop around. The feathers are sea foam green with orange/blue peacock "eyes" printed onto the material. There are two wrist straps to help keep the feathers forward and upright on the costume.

This is a great costume for cooler climates because it will keep your child warm. Due to the popularity of this costume, expect to pay at least $40.

Great article. I'm glad you blurred out the child's face in your photo. I see so many people that put photos of their children on AC, and this is a public place on the net, and sometimes I don't think it's a good idea. Photos of adults, I think are fine, but children I feel leary about.

Is it odd that I think it would be cool to go as a peacock as an ADULT too? There is a cute one at the following link http://www.costumesupercenter.com/womens+costumes-animals/7691M.html

    Great article!
