When buying sod, there are many important factors to consider. How it was grown, what kind of grass you want, and, of course, how far you're willing to travel to get it.

In Cedar Rapids, Iowa, we have many options. There are many sod farms throughout Eastern Iowa, and at least three reputable farms in Cedar Rapids alone.

Without going in any particular order, the first on this list is:

Blue Grass Enterprises, located at 7707 Blairs Ferry Road.
319-393-2165
They sell two different kinds of sod: Master Blend and RTF sod. They can install it for you or give advice on how to install it yourself. They've been open for business since the 1960's, and have many loyal customers returning each spring.

Aggregates Green Beginnings, also located on Blairs Ferry Road.
319-395-0050
This company is not only a sod farm, but also a landscaping and lawn care supplies operation. They are locally owned and operated, and their sod is of high quality. Though they do not have a website, their employees are very knowledgeable and happy to help. A quick call to Aggregates will get you started on your way to a beautiful lawn.

Olson Bros Sodding and Landscaping located at 2127 Hindman Road, in Marion.
319-377-5877
Olson Bros provide many services to the Marion and Cedar Rapids area, including seeding, hydro seeding, and erosion control. They do both residential and commercial, and any sod project is handled expertly by this company. Contact the listed phone number during normal business hours for a quote.

Lastly, any homeowner wishing to purchase sod can visit our local Menards or Home Depot. Their sod may not be grown locally, but it's still a viable option for your sodding and seeding needs. Prices vary by season and quality, and sod usually becomes available during March or April.
