Where to Buy a Trendy and Reasonably Priced Winter Coat

Joe Grobin
With the winter months upon us, now is a good time to buy a winter coat. Stores that have had coats in stock for the last couple of months will have most likely lowered their prices ensuring that you get a good deal.

If you want to buy a coat that is somewhat trendy at a reasonable price point, you don't have to look very far. Urban Outfitters carries a pretty good selection though not all of their coats are reasonably priced.

Some of the highlights of their inventory include a quilted bomber jacket. The regular price is $54 which is pretty good. The jacket comes in black, red and blue and can be found both online and in stores.

If you are looking for a more traditional cut, Urban Outfitters is also selling a long peacoat which hits a few inches above the knee. The cobalt blue color is bright and fresh without being too much of a stand out (if you're not into being the center of attention). The coat is currently priced at $125.

If you like peacoats but don't like that price, try Delias. Every year, they always sell their traditional cut peacoat. A good tip is to never buy one at their regular price, because a few months after they introduce those coats, they end up slashing the price. Regular price is $89.50, but the coat is currently priced at $69.50. If you don't live near a Delias store, you can also order the coat online. The jacket comes in black, grey, green and red.

Delias also carries a really great trench coat, double breasted in a twill material. It flares out a bit past the waist line, which gives it a nice shape. The jacket comes in red, black and khaki. The red is particularly a nice touch for the type of material that the coat is made out of, and looks good with jeans and some flats. The price is currently at $68.50.

Delias also carries toggle coats priced at $69.50 and belted coats (which belt at the waist) for $69.50 as well.

Delias coats are great because they are fully lined and keep you warm. Plus they last for years to come - if you're not into buying a new coat every winter. The peacoat or toggle coats are great for this particular reason since they're classic cuts that never go out of style and can be worn for dressy and casual occasions.

Alloy is another great store that usually carries a wide and trendy selection of coats every fall and winter. Alloy is strictly a mail-order or Internet-order retailer. They currently have a collared coat which hits above the knee and flares out like a baby doll dress. It comes in a cream color which instantly dresses up any outfit. The collar will keep you warm during the cold months. It is a little pricey at $99.50, but if you plan on wearing it for years to come, then it is worth the investment.

Alloy also carries its own take on the peacoat with a hooded, short style that stops at the hips. It comes in classic colors, but if you are more daring, try the deep purple color at $89.50.

You can also find deals at Forever 21. A lot of their coats are fully-lined and come in some really fun materials. However, watch out on the construction of these coats. Some of them are poorly made and you tend to just get the look of the coat moreso than quality. But then again, if you live a place like Southern California where it doesn't get that cold, it doesn't really matter. The decision is up to you.

Coats are obviously a bit more pricey than other articles of clothing, but well worth the investment. Make sure to shop around and compare prices, and you'll be able to find just what you are looking for.

  • You don't have to spend a lot to find a trendy coat that will keep you warm
  • Good coats are usually lined
  • Never buy a coat at regular price; you can usually find what you're looking for on sale
