Where to Buy Vintage Clothing

Robyn Lines
1. Car Boot Sales
The amount of vintage clothing you can find at car boot sales depends on the area. Target places which have an elderly and / or wealthy population. You don't have to focus on this type of area but you are more likely to be successful if you do. You may find a few hidden gems at any car boot sale, regardless of the area. If you see a seller with several items of vintage clothing for sale ask them if they have any more. They may have more at home which they are willing to sell.

2. Jumble Sales
Jumble sales are very cheap but there may be very few items of vintage clothing. If you want to search jumble sales you must have a sharp eye and fast hands.

3. Vintage Clothing Shops
The problem with specialist vintage clothing shops is that they can be very expensive. Try and haggle with the shop owner and if possible take along any vintage clothes you have which no longer fit or you no longer like and offer a trade.

4. Charity Shops
You might find some hidden gems for very cheap or you might not. Again you must have a sharp eye. Try checking back often. You could even ask the shop keeper to call you if they have any vintage items come in.

5. Private Ads
Search private ads in papers and listing sites online, like craigslist. You could also try posting your own ads online or in shop windows asking for anyone with vintage clothing to sell to contact you. Pick an appropriate place to place your ad if you do use this technique.

6. Friends, Relatives & Acquaintances
Let everyone you know know that you're on the look out for vintage clothes. Get friends to tell friends. Older relatives might not know what 'vintage clothing' is, so tell them 'jumble sale clothing' or something that will make it clear to them what you mean.

7. Attics
There may be items of forgotten clothing in your attic or the attics of friends and relatives. Have a rummage through as many attics as possible as you never know when you might uncover a hidden gem

8. Auctions
Visit your local auction house and find out when their actions are. Ask what the chances of there being any vintage clothing on auction and ask them to call you when they do have some coming up in a future auction.

9. eBay
Probably the easiest and most useful place to find vintage clothing. There is a whole section dedicated to vintage clothes.
