OK look.. I fell in love with a wine rack one day at the Bombay Company and had to have it. I can't be having an empty wine rack, now can I? There ya have it. I buy wine. You would think that I would only have to fill the damn thing once... but no, it keeps disappearing. Someone keeps blaming the cat...
Anyway, I spend far too much on something I don't even use for anything other than decor. Part of that money is spent at Wine.com. The first time I ordered from wine.com about 7 years ago was because I got credits for every dollar I spent from milesource.com. I go back now because I like them.
The wine.com site is pleasant to surf through, and very relaxing. It's easy to navigate by either wine type, region, price point, or winery. Mostly what I look for personally is the labels. Yes, I'm weird. I openly admit that. I buy my wine based on how well I like the picture on the label. Specifically, I look for castles, shields, medieval beasts and the like. Now, when I first started shopping at wine.com, this type of shopping was very difficult. I wrote letters. They wrote back. It's now much easier to see the label pictures! Wow. A site that listens... imagine that!
All of my wine orders have arrived pretty rapidly. I may just get lucky because my orders are shipping from Virginia to a Richmond address. It may take longer for other folks but my wine arrive sometimes within 2 days of the order. The packaging is perfect and I have never received a broken bottle.
The prices are a tad higher than I can get at local wine shops in the States, but lower than I pay at home in Sweden. Occasionally wine.com has the better deal, but over-all it's cheaper to go to the wine store. However, that isn't feasible at 3AM when I'm in the US, bored, and can't sleep and feel like filling the wine rack once again. That's when wine.com comes into play for me now. Well that and I like supporting a site that actually listens. They have over 2,500 types of wine to choose from so the selection is great! One thing you may want to be aware of though, not all wines are available in all locations. When you go to the site, select your state before you start browsing or you may end up very disappointed.
They have more than just wine though. They also have gift sets, corkscrews, personalized wine labels, glasses... lots of nice accessories. They also have a wine club you can join where you get 2 new bottles to try every month. The price for this varies depending on what length of time you join for and which club, for 3 months in the Build Your Cellar Club it will run you $209.85.
Over all this is a give and take as with most sites. You may pay a bit more, and the shipping is a bit high ($8.95 for one bottle, lower per bottle the more you buy).. but the convenience is sometimes worth it. Again, wine.com listens to their customers and I know everything I order will arrive when I expect it and in good shape. There's value in familiarity. I like these folks!

Post a CommentNice article. I'm going to give this a try.
This is awesome. I love wine but can never figure out which to buy for my taste. I will check this site out!
Great review...I am emailing this to my sister in law who enjoys her wine. :)
I'll definitely be checking this website out. Great review!
There's nothing like a nice glass of wine with a romantic dinner. Great work!
I don't like wine, either. But I have to admit some of the bottles are rather nice. Great review.
I'll have to check this one out.
I buy a lot of wine, I'll have to visit this website
I swear by buying wine based on the labels! I of course live in a state that has "issues" with online wine buying.
I have a great bottle, a long necked black cat..never opened it..:)
