Where Did the Weekend Go?

Tony Payne
This weekend really disappeared
It certainly didn't last
It went as quickly as it came
The time flew by so fast

There wasn't time to stop and think
To relax and to unwind
Instead I had some jobs to do
It was Home Improvement time

We had to clear out a bedroom
And make ourselves some space
The second bedroom was full up
And really a disgrace

We filled it full of boxes see
With nowhere else to put them
But now the time had come around
To move them or to chuck them

The loft was where we planned to put
These boxes and possessions
We put off doing this so far
Because of the recession

But this weekend we had to act
And give the loft a floor
It's not the nicest job to do
And certainly a chore

So off I went to buy some packs
Of ready cut floorboards
And up the ladder to the roof
I went with tools and saw

The loft was really dirty
Full of rubbish, what a chore
And by the time I finished
Oh boy, my knees were sore

So now the loft is mostly floored
The boxes have been moved
It badly needed doing
And the bedroom looks improved

Then onwards to the next big job
The bathroom needed work
Four people there with no towel rail
Was driving us berserk

So now these chores are finished
The Home Improvement's done
But where did my poor weekend go?
It's just like I had none :(

This poem goes hand in hand with the story of my weekend, and a change of plans, bringing forward the schedule for fixing up the loft, second bedroom and the bathroom due to a family emergency.

Ah, but I can see the faint glimmer of a glow of satisfaction in a job, well, done!

Loved your stories and the poem was the icing on the cake! Take care of those knees, you will need them in your old age, trust me!

Weekends fly by, especially when they're not the relaxing type:)
