Where to Donate Christmas Gifts in Colorado

Jeanne Marie Kerns
Christmas is right around the corner already and many families just do not have the means to celebrate it or give gifts as more fortunate people do. Fortunately there is a quick fix to that situation if people take the time and just donate one or two gifts to those who are less fortunate. Below is a list of places where you can bring one, two or as many gifts as you like to those people who just cannot afford to give this holiday season.

Springs Rescue Mission located at 11 East Las Vegas Street in Colorado Springs takes gift donations weekdays 10:30am to 4pm. Gift donations can be anything that is new or used. Please remember that there is limited space for big items such as furniture, exercise equipment, etc. If you are thinking of donating to the Springs Rescue Mission, please be sure to call them at (719) 632-1822 to make sure there is enough room for what you have to donate.

Attention Homes (Broadway House) located at 3080 Broadway in Boulder, Colorado has been helping families in need since 1966. Gift donations are most definitely welcomed during the afternoon hours. Gift items that are in dire need are kitchen items, household items, art supplies, bathroom items, school supplies, sporting goods, outside items, clothing for male and female teenagers, gift certificates and electronics. If you have any of these items, or are fortunate enough to spare the money to buy one or a few of these items. Please call Attention Homes at 303-447-1206 for the best delivery times.

Marian House Soup Kitchen located at 14 W. Bijou, in downtown Colorado Springs, offers free meals to those who are in need. Gifts do not necessarily have to be toys or clothes, but may also be food. Donating food as a gift can keep someone from going hungry. If you would like to donate food of any kind as a gift, please call the Marian House Soup Kitchen at 719-471-9372.

La Puente Home located at 913 State Ave in Alamosa, Colorado has been helping families who have had a hard time since 1982. The La Puente Home has a needs list of items that are needed as soon as possible. You can see the list at http://www.lapuente.net/store/needslist.htm. For times when drop-offs are possible, please call the La Puente Home at 719 589-5909.

You can also bring your gift donations to of course are Arc, Goodwill, Disabled American Veterans, and the Salvation Army. You can request that your donations be given away to families who are in need, instead of sold in there stores.

Churches are also a great place to donate gifts to during and after the holidays. Many churches set aside clothing, food and money for those who are in need. Call your local church or churches in your area to set up a time to bring your donations in.

Last but not least, my favorite place to bring in gift donations are to hospitals and nursing homes. There are many people who are in need of clothing, food, and just your everyday necessities. Nursing home residents are especially grateful to those who take the time just to show them that they are still cared about. Even if it is coming from someone they have never met before.

Giving to someone during the holidays and even after is a gift that keeps giving even after the person or people have received it. Knowing that you took the time to put a smile on someone's face that needed one is more precious than most can imagine. Take the time a donate to those in need, it only takes very little.

I was wondering if you could possibly help me find a place where i could get assistance with gifts for my family. I have had a very hard time finding anything. I have recently lost my job, I am a single mother and also helping to raise my 2 grandchildren. My 6yr. old daughter needs to be on medication daily so every penny I have goes to try and keep her on that since I recently lost my insurance as well. Any referrals would be such a great help. I would at least like to have one thing for each of them to make them smile for the day. My # is 720-297-5708 I greatly appreciated the chance to write this and any responce you could give. Thank you and God Bless and Happy Holidays!
