Where is Drive? A Profile of the Fox Drama

Drive, the Fox drama, created by Tim Minear and Ben Queen, was pulled from the Fox line up after only being on the air for two weeks.

Drive was an action-fueled drama following an assorted group of Americans competing in an illegal underground, cross country road race. The show was adictive to those who watched, with twists and turns around every corner. Some of the contestants are competing for their lives, or the lives of their loved ones. Some of the contestants have been coerced into joining "The Race"; others have sought out The Race themselves, having heard rumors of the $32-million prize. Each of them has a reason to compete. And each of them feels they must win.

The contestants are given a set of text messages to a cell phone given to them before The Race that are clues to the next check point. The contestant started in Key West, Florida, the group travel through Florida, into Georgia, ending in Virginia.

Lead star, Nathan Fillion ("Firefly," "Slither"), as Alex Tully, is pushed into The Race in an attempt to find his missing wife. Instead he finds Corinna Wiles, played by Kristen Lehman. Corinna is a beautiful and mysterious stowaway who may, or may not, hold the key to the secrets of The Race and its mysterious benefactors. Corinna claimsthat she was once kipnapper, like Alex's wife, and her parents, in The Race searching for her, died. The two of them follow the clues, leading to the robbery of a bank.

New mother Wendy Patrakas (Melanie Lynskey, Sweet Home Alabama) is on the run from her husband and competing for the safety of her newborn baby, or perhaps something much more astonishing.

John Trimble (Dylan Baker) is a buttoned-down scientist who is dying of a terminal illness. He embraces The Race as the last chance to show his rebellious 15-year-old daughter Violet (Emma Stone) that he can be spontaneous.

Winston Salazar (Kevin Alejandro) views The Race as an opportunity to leave his criminal past behind. But before setting off for The Race, he pays a visit to his father, only to find a half-brother he didn't know he had. Winston uses The Race to bond with Sean (J.D. Pardo), his half-brother.

Hurricane Katrina survivors Ivy Chitty (Taryn Manning, Hustle & Flow), Leigh Barnthouse (Rochelle Aytes) and Susan Chamblee (Michael Hyatt) are determined to start their lives over and help rebuild their fallen city with The Race's winnings. However, Ivy gets greedy, leaving her friends behind to partner with Wendy Patrakas.

Ellie Howe (Mircea Monroe) sees The Race as an opportunity to keep her boyfriend, military specialist Rob Laird (Riley Smith), from being sent back to Iraq. Eventually finding out about his wife's betrayal, Rob throws the cell phone out of the car.

Due to the cancellation of the show, no one may ever know where the contestants had to go or who would win the prize.

Drive received a strong promotional push on Fox's hit American Idol and was launched with a two-night premiere. This is a strategy repeatedly used for the network's hit drama 24. But, according to Fox executives, Drive didn't clicked with viewers, and its two low-rated airings on Monday seemed to injure its lead-out, 24, which placed its lowest adults 18-49 rating for an original episode in more than three years.

It is still undecided to the network when and on what platform the left over nine episodes of Drive will air. Streaming the episodes on Fox.com or offering them as downloads through iTunes are among the possibilities under consideration.
