Portland is a city that sleeps. Drive through its streets at night, and they are empty. So it only makes sense that Portland is also a city that wakes up early enough to make, and eat breakfast.

The Cult Favorite:Voodoo Doughnut

Let's be clear, Voodoo doughnuts just sells doughnuts. If you are looking for a place to sit down, a healthy breakfast, or a nice little conversation with friends-than this is not the place. This place is legendary, open 24 hours a day, it is the spot for those leaving town early, going home after too much partying, and those just stuck between too late to go to bed, and too early to want a formal breakfast.

What they are known for: There fresh funky doughnuts ie) the bacon maple bar, the grape ape, and the old dirty bastard

Fine Dining Meets Simplicity:Café du Berry

On the outside this is a small unassuming little Bistro in a nice little neighborhood overlooking the river. On the inside it aspires to make fresh well-made food that manages to be unpretentious and elegant at the same time. This is a good spot to spend a Sunday morning, mulling over your food with good friends.

What they are known for: The French toast and fruit with a cup of coffee. If you want to splurge try the eggs Benedict.

This place is all about fresh, healthy food, and no additives. Every dish has fresh fruits and vegetables, not wilted, overcooked produce. In most restaurants the fruits and vegetables simply garnish or add color to the plate, but here they are the centerpiece.

What They Are Known For: Being environmentally consciousness- and yummy smoothies made with nothing but fresh fruit, no sugar added.

The Good Old Fashion Breakfast: Dean's Homestyle Café

There is something to be said, for simple country cooking the way your grandma made it. In a suburbs of Portland, this little restaurant has been cooking big old fashioned meals for years. It may be a little greasy, the portions huge, and the atmosphere over familiar, but its done with class and warmth.

What they are known for: Biscuits and Gravy

You really can't beat the quality, the prices, or the artistry of their food.
