If you live near Canonsburg, Pa, I recommend you try Where the Toys Are. This store has a huge selection of antique dolls ranging from thirty year old Mattel Barbie to dolls made over a century ago. While I was there two dolls especially caught my attention. One was an Armand Marseille German Bisque Doll. She had working eyes with mohair hair and a blue silk dress with a white collor. What is even more amazing about this doll is that she still has the original ribbons in her hair. Right now she is selling for $600. Another doll that caught my attention was a Wind up Musical Baby Doll. Her head and hands are handpainted and she is dressed in a flannel nightgown and bib. She is currently priced at $185.00. Not all Where the Toys Are's dolls are expensive. The store has a few collector Barbies starting under $100.00
Where the Toys Are also sells other collectibles like action figures and character collectibles. Shipping is always free. It is located at 45 W. Pike St., Canonsburg, Pa. 15317. The phone number is 724-745-4599. The store is normally open Thursday thru Monday from noon to 5pm, but the store owner suggests that you call ahead if you are planning a trip because the store may be closed for travel or shows.
Next store to buy antique dolls at is Debra's Dolls. The store owner is an expert in wax and papier mache dolls and is also a member of the National Antique Doll Dealers Association (NADDA) and The United Federation of Doll Clubs. Doll prices range from $175.00 to $5,250.00 but many dolls are available for under $1000.00. Not only does Debra's Dolls offer a wide selection of dolls but also sells antique doll clothings and reproduction clothings. Debra's Dolls also offers appraisal and doll restoration services. The store is located at 20 N Main Street, Mullica Hill, NJ 08062. Their online catalog can be found at http://www.debrasdolls.com/dolls/index.html I would recommend this store to any serious antique doll collector.
The next retailer I will review is Nora's Antique Dolls & Collectibles. There is no brick and mortar store but the website is very easy to navigate. Nora's Antique Dolls and Collectibles specializes in and German Bisque dollars. Her selection includes: Tete Jumeau Bebes, Steiner, Bru poupees, Kestner, Handwerck, French Fashion poupees - to name a few of the many dolls available. The store also carries a large selection of clothing and hats to fit your French and German antique doll. The store also carries other accessories for your antique doll such as furniture and purses. While this website has a large selection of dolls, I would consider this store a last resort. Many of the dolls are prices at over $10,000 but the doll accessories are a bit more reasonable priced. The store's entire selection can be view at http://www.noramcneil.com/index.html .
I hope this shopping guide helps you find your next antique doll. All of the store owners will happily help you pick a perfect doll for your budget and taste.
