Cheap Christmas Flights Can Be Found with Proper Planning

Going home for Christmas is a holiday tradition for many. However, with the suffering economy, how can one obtain cheap flights at Christmas? Christmas airfare fluctuates on a daily basis and is also dependent on which day you travel. With some through internet research, bargain Christmas flights can be found.

According to the travel website FareCompare.com, cheap Christmas flights can be had if you can be flexible with the travel days. For the 2009 holiday season, they predict the most expensive travel days are Sunday, December 20th, Wednesday, December 23rd and Sunday, January 3rd. The second tier of the most expensive days to travel back home are Sunday, December 27th, Wednesday December 30th and Saturday, January 2nd.

Because of the economy, FareCompare.com advised that less people will be traveling over the 2009 holidays, which translates into a 15 to 10% drop in fares this year. The best time to book cheap Christmas flights is during the month of October.

UsingFareCompare.com to track bargain Christmas flights allows you to plug in your travel destinations and have them compare the best flights for you. FareCompare.com claims to alert email subscribers six hours before changes in airline pricing is posted on competitor websites.

Another useful website to use for bargain Christmas flights is Bing.com. Bing Travel predicts travel fares from most cities in the United States and Canada to worldwide destinations. Bing's programming searches over 100 airline and travel agency websites for the best fares.

When you plug in your travel destinations, Bing advises if they think the fares are rising or going down and advises if you should buy your ticket now or wait. They find the lowest fare between your two cities within the next 90 days. Then they compare that particular bargain airfare to all of the other airfares in the system and use that data to make a prediction.

On their website, they claimed that an auditing firm, Navigant Consulting, confirmed that Bing travel was 74.5% accurate in their predictive technology. When Bing Travel locates the best fare for your travel needs, they send you directly to the website of the supplier to book the tickets.

By using the knowledge of the days in December and January with the least demand and best predicted rates and combining that information with the aggregate airfare data provided by FareCompare.com and Bing.com, you will be performing due diligence in the quest for cheap Christmas flights.
