Where to Find Baseball Card Values Online

Ron White
Since baseball card collecting went from hobby to business investment during the early 1980s, when the rarity of the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle rookie sent its value skyward, card values have been a constant area of interest. What's the best card in the pack? What's the best card in the set? Is your Hank Aaron card worth more than my Ernie Banks card?

One company stands as the widely accepted premier source of card pricing. Beckett Media has published price guides for trading cares for almost 30 years, and today's company is an internet-friendly business that offers pricing for baseball, basketball, football, golf, hockey and racing cards.

Beckett offers online subscriptions that allow collectors and investors to search for the values of specific cards. The company charges a small fee for access to its price guides. Collectors can subscribe either for one month, six months or annually to the company's baseball guide. The prices are based upon surveys of dealers and reflect current demand for certain cards, and website users can create an online checklist of the cards in their collections using the site.

In today's online world, though, Beckett Media is not alone in offering pricing for sportscards. Another website, cardpricer.com, offers online pricing for more than 190,000 cards. The company's prices are based on online auction sales at sites such as eBay.

Tuff Stuff, a card pricing magazine, also offers online pricing for cards. Tuff Stuff has been in the industry since April 1984 and provides pricing for all sports in a single publication.

Another good source of sportscard pricing information is simply to visit sites such as eBay and observe the selling price for certain cards, particularly those which are of significant value or are in particularly high demand. The site gives a good indication of true value. After all, a sportscard is only worth as much as someone wants to pay for it.

Excellent article! My son just purchased a huge baseball card collection being a single-mother with NO knowledge of cards, it is important to know the value of this collection before trading or selling without taking a huge loss on it! Mr. White done a tremendous job of summing up the opportunities for people like me to go to for pricing! Thank you for this fantastic article! A wealth of "useful" information!
