Those who have tried boba/bubble tea either absolutely love it or hate it altogether.

I am of the former group. It is a favorite drink/dessert of mine, and I find myself craving it at least once every week. It is a Vietnamese creation and is just like an American smoothie except it also contains large, black tapioca balls and there are several exotic flavors to choose from. If you've ever had bad boba tea, you probably know what to avoid. The balls are hard in the center and maybe too gooey on the outside. The balls lack flavor. The smoothie is too watery or too sweet, or maybe the price is too steep. I've been on the lookout for good boba/bubble tea in San Antonio. I've had my fair share of bad boba tea in this town, but now that I've discovered the best place, I'm here to share it with you! I had a hard time finding them online. They weren't on switchboard.com or yellowpages.com. But if you're on a hunt for good boba tea like I, you'll do whatever it takes to find that perfect shake.

Characteristics of good boba tea

The perfect boba tea is not too sweet, not watery, and full of creamy flavor. The balls are also full of flavor, sweet, and completely cooked through to the middle (no hard centers). The balls aren't too soft or gooey either.

Aside from meeting all of the above criteria, Pho Ha Long also has a great selection of exotic flavors, is less expensive than the other boba places I've visited, and they give you the boba tea in large containers! Less money for more quality boba tea? What more could you ask for?

Flavors

My personal favorites are honeydew (It's green and taken from the honeydew melon), taro (It's made from an oriental purple sweet potato), and Thai tea (It's a delicious creamy tea from Thailand). Besides these, their other exotic flavors include passion fruit, lychee, jackfruit, red bean, white bean, and milk tea. You're probably going, "red bean and white bean?" It's strange, but a lot of Asian desserts are made of sweetened beans. It's delicious!

For those who want to try something more familiar, there are also common flavors like green apple, mango, strawberry, mocha, cappuccino, peach, coconut, pineapple, papaya, and avocado. If you're used to eating avocado salted in recipes like guacamole, you might find a sweetened avocado boba tea smoothie a bit strange, but believe me, it's delicious!

Pho Ha Long is located at 6424 NW Loop 410 San Antonio, TX 78238. They can be reached at (210) 521-4507.
