Philadelphia may be best known for its ubiquitous Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches. The truth is, though, that the City of Brotherly Love has a lot of other delicious cuisine to offer. For example, Philadelphia can boast some of the best breakfast places in the entire country. Here's a list of some of the best breakfast spots in the city:

-Dutch Eating Place-

1136 Arch St.

Reading Terminal Market

Philadelphia, PA 19107

(215) 922-0425

The Dutch Eating Place is a serious, no-nonsense breakfast establishment that is located in the Reading Terminal Market. It opens at 8:00 am, sharp, every day of the week. This place, which serves up heaping portions of delicious Amish-styled fare, is hugely popular with the locals. There is an absolute lack of health-consciousness, and the entire focus is on taste. This shows up well on the plate. The blueberry pancakes and scrapple are particularly great. If you're looking for a big, probably-can't-finish-it-all, homestyle breakfast, the Dutch Eating Place is perfect for you.

-Morning Glory-

735 S. 10th St.

Philadelphia, PA 19147

(215) 413-3999

Morning Glory is a wonderful Philadelphian breakfast experience. This establishment opens at 7:00 am on weekdays, or 8:00 am on weekends, but bear in mind that it is closed on Mondays altogether. They specialize in delicious, oversized pancakes and other down-home touches that make eating here a true delight. For example, they feature homemade ketchup, which in concert with their delicious potato products, makes for a truly unique dining experience. Beware peak times, though, as this little diner can draw big crowds, especially on the weekend.

-Melrose Diner-

1501 Snyder Avenue

Philadelphia, PA 19145

(215) 467-6644

The battle cry of the Melrose Diner might well be, "Great, greasy breakfast, any time of the day or night!" It's open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This is classic diner nostalgia, packed into one small, oft crowded room. The food, while somewhat greasy and not presented in the most attractive fashion, is some of the best American-style breakfast food that you'll find anywhere in Philadelphia. Also, if you come for lunch, dinner, or simply don't think it's weird to have one with breakfast, then try one of Melrose's signature milkshakes. They're some of the best available. A word to the wise though: the Melrose Diner is really only proficient at making breakfast. The rest of their meals are often mediocre at best.

-Sabrina's Café-

910 Christian St.

Philadelphia, PA 19147

(215) 574-1599

Sabrina's Café is a charming, small little eatery which is located in close proximity to the Italian Market area of Philadelphia. It opens daily at 8:00 am. The staff at Sabrina's Café are the first key to what makes it so successful. They are all extremely attentive and helpful, without being doting, and they seem universally pleasant. The food itself, however, is what will make you want to come back. Try the French toast, as it is some of the best in nation. They also serve a delicious, nutritious, homemade granola. And, unlike some of the other restaurants which made this list, Sabrina's Café serves equally delicious lunch and dinner dishes.

-Ants Pants Café-

2212 South St.

Philadelphia, PA 19146

(215) 875-8002

The Ants Pants Café, which is an Aussie-themed Philadelphia breakfast hotspot, opens weekdays at 7:00 am and at 8:00 am on Saturdays and Sundays. The true genius of this restaurant is the way that it works upscale, fancier dish selections into a menu of everyday American favorites. For example, diners can get a simple breakfast of eggs over-easy, toast, hash browns, and bacon. They can also order dill scrambled eggs, or sweet potato fries. Either way, whether you go the more traditional route or try something new, The Ants Pants Café will deliver a breakfast that you'll not soon forget. Likewise, they serve up Australian coffee, just shipped in from down under, which makes a visit here worthwhile all by itself.
