Where to Find the Best Deals on Electronic Gifts This Christmas
A Penny Pinchers Guide to Finding the Best Deals
So, how can one find the best deals on electronics. In just seven simple steps you can be on your way to making sure you have the best deal.
Familiarize yourself with the product you are looking to purchase. In the electronics world there is an ever changing line of products. Often the product you may be looking for has already been tweaked to be better or different. Make sure that if you are looking for an iphone 3GS that the product you are getting ready to purchase isn't an iphone 3G. Double check on products such as MP3 players that you know you are looking for the one that has the appropriate amount of memory. One of the best ways to save money is to know exactly what you need. Don't purchase a 16 gigabyte MP3 player if all you will ever need is an 8 gigabyte player.
Don't be in a hurry. The worst thing you can do when looking for a new gadget is to find yourself wanting that item tomorrow. Driving up to the first electronics big box store you can find and purchasing your hearts desire will cost you money. This process is extremely important as you move on to the next step.
Familiarize yourself with every search engine available to you. The most popular search engines all have shopping aides. Google, Bing, and Yahoo will all pull up a plethora of products when you run a search. The prices will be varied so make sure when you check the prices that you are referring back to suggestion number one. Don't just settle for the best price Google gives you. Each search engine uses its own independent search algorithm that will render you different results. Be sure to check out the smaller sites such as altavista, excite, frugalytics, shopzilla, pricegrabber, and shop.com are all worthy of a search before you decide on where to purchase.
Don't just use search engines. Online stores such as amazon.com and overstock.com may very well have the product you are looking for as well. Don't shy away from searching Wal-Mart, Sam's or Best Buy's online store. Often these stores will offer lower prices online than they do in the store.
Don't be afraid to negotiate. I will often print up the best price I can find on an electronic gadget and take it into my local big box store. Make sure when doing this you are figuring in shipping costs, and additional taxes if applicable. Don't present yourself as foolish by walking in and low balling the sales person, chances are they have seen and heard it all.
Look for coupons. When I was purchasing a car stereo a few months ago I was fortunate to find a coupon as I walked into the store. Use a search engine to find coupons to many of your favorite stores, but also make sure that there isn't a promotional code somewhere that you can use.
Buy refurbished, but be careful. You can find some really good deals on what many stores label as B stock, or refurbished. There is often nothing at all wrong with this equipment. In the case of refurbished, often times this equipment has been brought back to factory specifications. If you choose to purchase a refurbished piece of electronics make sure and read reviews from customers about the store you are purchasing from. B Stock equipment is almost always gently used and will often come with factory warranties. Make sure and always double check your warranty.
It is possible to find a good deal, and no matter where you go someone always has a lower price. It just takes a little due diligence in finding it. Good luck, now get out there and spend some money.
