Firstly, there are many free first person shooters available out there on the Internet. I would recommend trying these games first, as you can get a general feel for different first person shooters without having to pay for them.
One of these games is Combat Arms. Combat Arms is a newer game released by Nexon, a popular game company. Combat Arms is great for fast-paced first person shooter action and a wide selection of weapons and even bodily gear. The great thing about Combat Arms is that even though it's a free game, it doesn't give in-game advantages besides appearance to those who wish to pay to add additional features to their characters and weapons.
Warrock is another free first person shooter. This one, however, gives players who pay a subscription to the K2 network extreme advantages such as weapons, hosting and guild creation rights, different accessable maps, game styles, etc. However, the game content is quite decent, just watch out for the frequent hackers.
Now onto the games you must pay for to play. Counter Strike is a very popular series of games released through Steam. Counter Strike: Source is the newest version of the Counter Strike series, and is quite popular. The in-game options are endless and the combat is almost life-like. Another great feature of this game is that it performs well even on relatively old computers. This game is now available for 20.00 on the Steam website.
The Call of Duty series is becoming extremely popular for online play as well. Call of Duty 4 seems to be getting about the most attention lately, and I've heard talk of it all throughout other first person shooter games. The only downfall is that this game is going to require some steep system specifications to play. I recommend first testing your computer on http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest. If you can play it, buy it and check it out!
The Halo series is another really popular set of first person shooters. These are based in a sort of Space setting, if you haven't already played or heard of these games. I never really got into them, because I prefer the more modern/realistic first person shooters. However, you can get earlier Halo games, as well as Call of Duty games, for really cheap now.
My final suggestion about buying and playing first person shooters online is to first check out gameplay videos and screenshots before buying or downloading the game and wasting your time. Usually a gamer can find what they like just through watching videos and checking out screen shots. Good luck searching, and I definitely recommend trying some of the games I have listed, they are some of the top video games, and will entertain you for hours at end!

Post a CommentYou forgot to mention Half-Life 2. For shame. Everyone should experiance this masterpiece of a game at least once. And then there are the expansions (Episode One and Episode Two), which add even more content. And what about Portal? Though it's not a Shooter, and it's fairly short, it's a really fun and engaging puzzle game using first-person to great effect.
