Where to Find the BEST Free Fonts- Shareware Fonts and Dingbats ; List of Free Font Websites

I love crazy and interesting fonts, especially when I can download them for free. Over the last five years or so I've been keeping track of the best free font websites and link lists for free fonts, shareware and dingbats that I came across. Fonts are such a great way to really personalize your website, blog, letters, presentations, or anything you might type out on a computer.

If you're looking for good Web Sites with Free Fonts or Shareware Fonts, you've come to the right place. All (or nearly all) are available for immediate download. You'll find only good, top quality, well-organized Web sites listed here. None of the crappy links with tons of ads. Coron's Sources of Fonts; Stephan Baitz's font archive of hundreds of fonts. His collection is quite unique, and I found fonts here I've never seen anywhere else that are beautiful and interesting. Excellent resource. Categorized, samples of each font or index of names only. Desktop Publisher's Favorite Website; Postscript (T1) fonts by Dieter Steffmann (AKA Typographer's Homepage). Wonderfully high quality postscript fonts available. English AND German versions of site.

dincTYPE (girlswhowearglasses.com); Small foundry with dozens of interesting, unique fonts available.
Some are free, and some are shareware. Buy sets or individual fonts, and also available on CD. Made "for people who own computers." Nice, retro theme for many, but a variety is available.

The Ding Ring; Webring listing of sites with dingbat font pages (many of which are sites of the dingbat font designers offering their dingbat fonts).

Dingbat Crazy; Over 1,000 freeware, shareware dingbat fonts categorically listed with samples. Site by Ozmee.

Dingbat Depot; Well organized site with a large collection of dingbat fonts. Their description: "DingbatDepot.com is the largest archive of free dingbat fonts on the internet today. The Dingbat Pages; Not updated for several years, but still a good source for dingbat fonts. Previously one of the best dingbat font sites out there, and one of the first places to check for dingbats. Many font designers featured here. Extensive collection, well organized by categories. Find font designers listing, lots of links, too. Great site.

Divide by Zero; Because of such fun characters, especially his dingbats and doodles, Tom Murphy's website, divide by zero, has remained one of my favorite font designers' sites to visit for quite a long time now. (The graphic to the right is made with several of Tom's dingbats.) You may recognize such names as Codon, Colophon, Tombats, TomBots, Action Jackson, and many more. The quality of all the fonts I've tried have been terrific, too, and in a variety of sizes. Want to smile and laugh while you check out some fun fonts and dingbats with tons of personality? Fontasy Fonts; Site in Germany with over 1,000 freeware fonts. Listed with samples and in alphabetical order. Also listing of new fonts, font rings, links to more font sites, a newsletter (if you can speak German). This site has some fonts that I haven't seen on US font sites, so it's worth the visit. Good site, well done.

Fontazm; Over 1,300 TrueType and Type 1 Postscript fonts and dingbat fonts for PC, font utilities.

FontDiner; A delightful Retro display font site with lots of fabulous, high quality fonts since 1996. I've watched this site evolve and grow (blossom!). In addition to their commercial fonts, they do offer some free fonts, too. You may recognize Fontdiner.com Sparkly, for example. Great font site.

Fontennium; Categorized, well presented collection of free fonts. Great site and resource.

FontFace; Over 1,000 free fonts available at this very well organized site. They're organized alphabetically and include images so you can see what they each look like. There's also a "Top 25" page that shows their most popular font downloads and a "Font of the Day" featured font. You can even subscribe to have the Font of the Day emailed to you each day. In addition, you'll find links to font tools for font creation, font management, font conversions, and a page with links to more font collections. Well worth a visit! Great Web site. Fonts are for both PC and Mac formats.

Fonts & Things; Well done font site and was once one of the very best out there. Definitely a first place to look for fonts. Many font designers featured here, good resource of free fonts, font tools and utilities (including conversion programs), links to designers' sites and more. New fonts used to be added every month, but at this point the site seems stagnant (June 2007). Well organized site, still worth a visit.
