Where to Find Eco-Friendly Office Supplies

Lauren Romano
Using office supplies such as paper and pencils can create a large amount of waste per year. These are necessities for every office to have in order to run efficiently. Since it is a necessity, that means that there needs to be more eco-friendly solutions to using these products. Here is where you can find eco-friendly office supplies.

TheGreenOffice.com sells eco-friendly office products from envelopes and pencils to calendars and binders. The Earth Write® Pencil manufactured by Sanford is non-toxic. The pencil casing is made from recycled newspaper and is made from 60 percent recycled content. For one dozen #2 medium soft lead pencils the price is currently .99 cents. The Sign Pen® manufactured by Pentel is a fiber tip pen. It contains a water based ink that works for writing as well as drawing. It is non-toxic but is also not refillable. The pen comes in three colors; red, black and blue. For a dozen pens, the price is currently $15.60. Envirotech™ Recycled #10 White Envelopes manufactured by Ampad is 100 percent recycled/100 percent post-consumer material. There is no chlorine added in these envelopes. These envelopes are chlorine free. There are 110 9x12 envelopes per box, and each box is currently $9.18.

The GreenOfficeStore.com is a fairly new site that started in 2007. As part of their "Giving Back" program, 1 percent of all orders over $50.00 is donated to organizations working toward socially responsible issues. They sell a wide array of eco-friendly office supplies and have an especially large section of calendars and planners. The 2008 Monthly Desk Calendar has wide view scenic photographs and has clear corner binding. The calendar, measuring 22 x 17, is printed on recycled paper with 30 percent post consumer material. The price for this calendar is currently $13.28. The 'Today Is' wall calendar displays the date in big, bold numbers and has the day and month on the bottom of each page. The calendar has one page per work day with Saturday and Sunday combined onto one page. It is made from 30 percent post consumer waste and is refillable.

For eco-friendly paper, Staples® carries 100 percent recycled copy paper. The paper is 8 1/2" x 11" and is processed without the use of chlorine. It is endorsed by the Rainforest Alliance.

More offices are going green after realizing the effects of all of the products that are used and thrown out. Companies are offering eco-friendly alternatives to the products that are already used and hopefully more will climb on board.
