In Lincoln the local farmers will be out from May to October for you to choose your pick of great farm fresh fruits and veggies. Here is a listing of the Farmer's Markets found around town on every day of the week.
Tuesday
The Mid-Week Haymarket Farmers Market will be held at the UNL campus (12th & R). This Market is open in the evenings at 5pm until about 7pm. Stick around afterward in June for Jazz in June. Local jazz bands will be playing every Tuesday in June at 7pm.
Wednesday
The Havelock Farmers Market is held at 61st and Havelock in Lincoln. It is open from 3:00 pm - 6:30 pm from May through October.
The Centennial Mall Garden Market runs from July through September at 14 & M (East side of Nebraska State Office Building). This market opens from 12:30 pm - 4:30 pm.
In previous years I have seen one on the North side of 14th and South Street from about 3pm to 8pm. They have had fruits, veggies and craft items.
Thursday
The Community CROPS Farmers' Market starts a little later. In 2009 it will run from June 4 to September 24. It will be open 4:30-7:30pm at Pentzer Park (2 blocks north of 27th and Holdrege).
Saturday
The Lincoln Haymarket Farmers Market is the place to go if you're wandering about on a Saturday morning in the Haymarket District (7th and P) May 3rd- October 11th, 2009. Open from 8am - 12 Noon. Multiple farmers will be found at this market. This is a great place to find selection from several farmers at the same place. There are also multiple booths filled with arts and crafts items and occasionally entertainment.
The Lincoln Piedmont Farmers' Marketis hosted by Lynette Epps with Sunrise Coffee at 1265 S Cotner Blvd.This farmers market featuresApple Ridge Acres- a local farm run by Virginia and Jerry Beckmann. The market will be open in the Piedmont Shopping Center parking lot from 9am- Noon May 24th through September.
Sunday
The Old Cheney Road Farmers' Market is held between the Racquet Club and the west parking lot of the Old Cheney Center at 5500 Old Cheney Road from the beginning of May 4 to the end of October. They are open from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. In addition to these, farmers can often be found on a hot summer afternoon with their trucks open for business in many local supermarket parking lots. Meet some farming neighbors and enjoy locally grown food. Stop by for some home grown goodies this summer.
