Where to Find Free Calendars: Grocery Stores, the Web and Other Places

Sally Albright
One of the things I look forward to when a New Year approaches is replacing last year's calendar with a new one. I oftentimes would wait until the New Year has already begun to buy my new calendar in order to save money on my calendar purchase. This was until I realized that there are many free calendars to be had. Surprisingly, free calendars aren't hard to find. Here are just a few places where you may find a free calendar for your home.

Grocery Store

Growing up my Mom often used calendars provided for free from the commissary on base. These calendars would not only help you keep track of important dates, but they came with recipes complete with pictures. The back of the calendar usually contained coupons that could be used at the commissary as well. While my family does not live nearby a commissary, we do have several grocery stores in our neighborhood. Last year I used a free calendar I obtained from one of my local grocery stores which also featured recipes along with pictures of the completed recipes. These calendars would look great when hung in the kitchen and you may end up with a new favorite recipe.

Toy Store

On my last visit to the toy store, picking up Christmas gifts for the kids, the cashier handed me a free calendar to take home with me. The calendar features popular characters such as the cast from High School Musical, Cars, and the Disney Princesses. These free calendars would make great daily planners for your children or can simply be used as decoration in their room. These calendars can also be a great way to teach younger children the days of the week.

Print Your Own

You can find many websites which provide free printable calendar templates. Websites, such as this one, allow for you to print out your own calendars using your printer and printer paper. Some of the calendar templates can be customized as well using your own digital image files. While not completely free, you have to use your own printer ink and paper after all, the cost of printing out your own calendar is much less than purchasing one in a store.

Other Stores and Restaurants

Some retail stores and restaurants offer their customers free calendars as a way of promoting their company. When visiting your favorite store or restaurant, be sure to ask if they offer a free calendar for you to take home. By offering customers free calendars, sporting the company logo, the company is able to advertise while keeping costs low. If you are lucky, you may find some free coupons attached to the calendars as well.

Reusing Your Old Calendar

If you happen to like your calendar from last year, there is no need to take it down. Instead of buying a new calendar, you can print out a calendar template for each month from the New Year. Simply tape these printed out calendar templates over last year's dates, and use your old calendar again. Not only is this idea a great way of finding a free calendar for the New Year, but you are recycling your old calendar as well, keeping it from ending up in a landfill.

There is no need to spend a lot of money buying a new calendar each year when you can get a new calendar for free. By using a free calendar instead of spending money on a new one you can save yourself some money in the New Year.

Great ideas. Someone gave me a calendar this year, but I can't bring myself to buy one. If nothing else we get one from the insurance agent.

Nice ideas. I remember when the local Hallmark store used to give out those cute little pocket calendars.
