This years Chinese New Year- The Year of the Ox will be celebrated on January 26th, 2009. So, what better way to say Happy Chinese New Year to your friends and family then by sending the ever popular e-cards? Here are 5 websites that offer free e-cards for the Chinese New Year. As always, there are a lot more, but these 5 are the most trusted, popular, and unique. Happy Chinese New Year!!

1) 123 Greetings- 123 Greetings is one of the most popular free greeting card websites out there, so it's no surprise that they have a large selection of unique Chinese New Year e-cards available for free. On their website, they have the cards broken down into categories such as "Fortune Cookie Chinese New Year e-cards", "Fireworks Chinese New Year E-cards" "Happy Chinese New Year e-cards" and much more which makes the site not only easy to navigate, but also offers a really large variety. I've sent e-cards using 123 Greetings many times, and my favorite part about the website is how easy it is to use, and also how I get email updates from 123 Greetings when the person I sent the e-card to views it (that way I can make sure it delivered). You also can go ahead and create your e-card now, but then not date it to send until the Chinese New Year, that way you don't forget. Their website is http://www.123greetings.com.

2) Chinese New Year E-Cards- Chinese New Year E-Cards is just what the title says..a website devoted to nothing but free e-cards for the Chinese New Year. This site offers probably the most selection out of all the websites, because it's an entire site filled with nothing but different e-cards all representing the Chinese New Year celebration. The website is broken down into categories, which makes the type of card you want easy to find, if you have an idea of what you want in mind. They also offer flash e-cards which are animated and play music, which are a lot of fun..especially for children. Their website is http://www.chinesenewyearecards.com/.

3) Hi Greetings- Hi Greetings is a popular free greeting e-card website that has a small section dedicated to e-cards for the Chinese New Year. They don't have a very wide selection, but they do offer several e-cards that are unique and that you won't see on other websites. They also offer several animated e-cards, and ones that you can add music to. They offer postcard format, animated, and flash e-cards all for free. The website is really easy to use, and unlike other websites, you don't have to create an account to send an e-card which makes creating and sending the e-card quick and completed in a matter of seconds. Their website is http://www.higreetings.com/.

4) Happy Day Cards- Happy Day Cards is a website that most people use for holiday e-cards such as Christmas, Valentines Day, etc. but most people forget that they also have a wide selection of e-cards for other holidays as well..such as the Chinese New Year. The website offers some pretty unique e-cards, as well as a few flash ones and animated ones. Some of them also contain Java Animation, which is a more advanced form of regular animation e-cards. They have several different e-cards to choose from, and many of their e-cards (even the non-animated ones) feature glitter designs, firework designs, or flashing glitter ones, which have a really different look to them. Their website is http://www.happydaycards.com.

5) Hallmark- Hallmark is one of Americas most popular greeting card and gift stores. However, they also have a website where you can send free e-cards for a variety of holidays. They don't have a very wide selection of cards for the Chinese New Year, however, the ones that they do have are unique, fun, and can be personalized with a lot of text, sounds, etc. which add a more unique and personal touch onto the card. They also offer one that features animated Chinese Zodiac animals, which is perfect if you're sending a Chinese New Year e-card to a child. You do need to create a free account prior to sending and personalizing your e-card on Hallmarks website, so make sure you do that. Hallmark also offers ways that you can post-date your e-card (create it today and date it to send on the date of the Chinese New Year or whenever you'd like) as well as ways to tell when the e-card has been viewed. Their website is http://www.hallmark.com/.
