If you are unable to find a location on this list to help you provide food to your family, check with churches in your neighborhood.
Oregon Food Bank
The Oregon Food Bank is the largest area provider of food for needy families. This organization has a wonderful website where you can find emergency food locations based on your zip code. You can find county food banks as well as smaller, community food banks on this website.
This financially responsible nonprofit organization also collections donated food and funds. You can donate funds online so that needy families in the area will have enough to eat over the holidays. You can even sign up to volunteer if you cannot afford to donate money to pay it forward.
TualatinSchool House Pantry
This community organization provides emergency food to people living in the Tualatin and Durham areas. This pantry does ask for proof of residence. A shopping assistant will help you select foods from the pantry based on the available food and the size of your family. There is a limit of one food box per calendar month.
The Sunshine Division
This Portland area organization has been serving needy families since 1923. This nonprofit collects monetary donations, food, and clothing to redistribute among needy families in the metro area. The Sunshine Division collects food for holiday gift boxes each year in November and December. This year, they plan to deliver these boxes to needy families registered in Multnomah County on December 16th.
Neighborhood House, Inc.
You can get one emergency food box per family per month from this organization. The box will last the average family about 3 days, and contains food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Income restrictions apply or you must be registered to receive certain state aid. See an eligibility chart here. This organization is also able to offer utility assistance to those in need, as funds allow.
Allen Temple Food Pantry
This food pantry is located on NE 8th avenue, and can provide you with a food box.
If you do not need to seek a holiday food box this year, consider donating money or volunteering to one of these worthy organizations. You never know when you or your family just might need the help.
