There's no doubt that children's toys can cost a bundle. However, it's possible to get great quality toys and pay very little money. Birthday and Christmas presents don't have to cost a fortune. Use these money saving tips to get inexpensive children's toys.

Buy Used Toys

Garage sales, thrift stores and consignment sales are all fabulous places to look for deals on used, children's toys. It's possible to find toys that are new in packaging or like new. Gently used toys and toys that need a little TLC to bring back to life are great finds if you don't mind putting a bit of work into the toy. Some toys need washing and some may need minor repairs, but it's not out of the ordinary to find like new toys that don't need any work at garage sales.

Christmas shopping at garage sales involves preplanning. Most garage sales are held during the summer months. Still, it's possible to pick up toys in excellent condition for little money. For families with young children on a very tight budget, this is the way to Christmas shop without breaking the bank.

Trade Toys with Friends and Relatives

It's no secret that kids get bored with their toys. After months of playing with the same thing over and over, many kids ignore toys that they once loved. Set up a toy rotation schedule with friends and relatives to trade toys.

Visit a Toy Library

Some areas are fortunate enough to have a toy library. If you live near one, take advantage of it. A toy library allows patrons to borrow toys, much like one borrows library books. The toys are returned after a few weeks time. Some public libraries have puzzles and other toys for children that circulate, as well as books.

Don't spend a fortune on toys for children. Look for used toys at garage sales, trade toys with friends and relatives and visit a toy library.
