It may be more convenient for you to stop by your local library than to go to the IRS customer service center. Here are the libraries that carry basic forms that you can take with you:

All Austin public libraries offer Internet access to the IRS web site (www.irs.gov) where you can print forms.
If you have a more complicated tax situation, you may prefer to pick up forms at the Austin IRS customer service center at 825 E. Rundberg Ln., Austin, TX 78753. The center is open Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. and also offers assistance with tax questions. Call (512) 499-5127 for more information.
Getting Tax Forms from the Comfort of Your Home
The IRS will mail tax forms to you and you can order them online.
The IRS has compiled a DVD, "Publication 1796," that contains most tax forms. You can order it online.

Senior citizens can get free tax help via the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) program provided by AARP. Community Tax Center open in mid January. Click here for a list of centers.

Post a CommentSarah - I hear your frustration. You are probably correct that the article has not aged well and doesn't contain current information. I can assure you that in February 2010 when I accepted this article assignment, the information was correct; however, I am not allowed to edit these articles once they are published.
I remember when you could get tax forms at the post office, but those days are long gone. Here is a link to the dwindling number of Austin, Texas libraries where you can find some tax forms as of April 2012 - http://library.austintexas.gov/press-release/tax-forms-and-help-apl.
I agree that driving around Austin in search of forms is not ideal, but that was the article I was assigned to write for folks who don't use the Internet. It's much easier to download PDFs of tax forms directly from the IRS and print them at home - here is the link - http://www.irs.gov/formspubs/.

The libaries do NOT have the forms that you can't print from the IRS web site. If your reading this, you can print the same ones that these libraries carry. Don't waste your time driving around. IRS forms printed in red, that they say you can't print for use ARE NOT AT THE LIBRARY. This article is useless!
