Where to Find a Part Time Job During the Holidays

Jennifer K.
Whether you need a second job to make more money, want to make some fast cash for the holidays, or just need a temporary job while you're off school, good paying part time jobs are abundant during the holiday season.

But, if you don't know where to look, it might be hard to find to find these positions. Some employers don't even bother to advertise these jobs because they fill so quickly. Here are some tips on where and when to look to fine the perfect holiday job.

Take a Tour of the Mall

Malls need a lot of extra help during the holidays. They need extra customer service, gift card sellers, gift wrappers, Santas, elves, and even Mrs. Claus. Go to your mall in early to mid November and ask a customer service rep how they hire their seasonal help. They may already be hiring, or you may be able to fill out an application. Either way, you will get valuable information on how the system works. While you're there, visit stores and ask the same questions. After all, they need extra help for the holiday rush too.

Check Out Craigslist

Visit www.craigslist.org and search the ETC, Part Time, and Event categories in the job listings in your area. There are often seasonal and promotional event listings in these categories. Seasonal promotional events may only last a day or a week, but they tend to pay very well! Such events might include signing up shoppers for credit cards at a busy mall or handing out food samples at a grocery store.

Toys, Toys, Toys

Toy stores are always busy during the Christmas season. They need extra employees to assist customers, stock shelves, and assist cashiers. Visit in November and ask when and how they hire their seasonal workers. You may be surprised by how early they begin beefing up their staff for the holidays.

Holiday Stores

Many stores open during the holiday season to sell Christmas decorations and/or gifts and then close when the season is over. These stores are often in malls, but may also be found as stand alone stores. If you see a store beginning to set up, as about employment. These stores need staff to set up the store, man the store while it's open, and then take down the store. If management likes your performance, this type of employment could also turn into a regular yearly gig.

You might also check out restaurants, pizza shops and caterers. This is the busy time of year for them also.
