I have seen more movies than I can count that have had a medieval or renaissance theme to them. The tents or pavilions have always intrigued me in these movies.
It's hard to explain why. There is that air of mysticism, allure, nomad, and reverence that has allured not only myself but others as well.
There is something about the way they are displayed and the scenes inside the tents that intrigues the best of us even when we try to not be caught up in the moment.
Why are pavilions or tents used in the medieval era?
Then for those who live in today's world who use these pavilions or tents due to their lifestyle around the world, use them for a way of life. For them, this is their home. The kind of home many of us would never consider living in because we feel it is not a lifestyle to live because there aren't any of the amenities we have grew accustom to in our way of life.
Even back in the medieval period, those who used these types of tents used them for several different purposes. If you have ever watched a movie or read a book that took place in this era, you know they have one for eating, sleeping, weddings and several other things that suited their lifestyles.
Why would someone want to make a tent for the medieval era?
Someone who is in to the renaissance theme would like to make a pavilion or any of the tents listed below because they want to say they did. Not only that, they would be given the opportunity to test their skills on this period of making an item most wouldn't consider trying out.
There's also the authentic factor that comes into play with a medieval theme. Sure, one could rent or buy one of these tents from a manufacturer, but the authenticity of it wouldn't be the same.
Back in those days, there weren't manufacturing plants to make such items as this. Everything from clothes to armor to castles were done by hand. Having the right hand stitching on a tent would make it more in tune with the period.
Then there's the factor of a small group of people who enjoy this period getting together to create an item for genre. They will be able to show off their handy work at any event they partake.
