You can get piano lessons from private individuals on occasion, from music stores and from Ohio University. Oftentimes you can even get piano lessons from music students from both Hocking College and Ohio University who are trying to earn extra money while in school. Following are the two major providers of piano lessons in Athens, Ohio.

Studio E Music1 in the Plains, near Athens, Ohio, offers piano lessons. The instructor listed on their website for piano lessons is Sandy Lake. They give no more information on personal details. Athens Community Music School2 is probably the largest provider of piano lessons in Athens, Ohio. They offer three types of piano lessons. Piano lessons are based on age and if you desire group or private piano lessons.

Piano Prep Program. Piano lessons in the Piano Prep Program are offered to children in the second or third grade. These piano lessons run from the end of March through early June. Katherine Fisher is the main instructor for these piano lessons. Currently the fee is $145 for 10 classes. The class size for these piano lessons is only 8, so register early. The benefit of these group piano lessons is the student teacher ratio is listed as 1 to 2. In order to receive these piano lessons, the student must also purchase a specific music book that they will use in class. Please view the website2 for dates and times for these piano lessons.

Group Piano - Level 1. Piano lessons in Group Piano Level 1 are offered to adults and high school students with little or no piano experience. These piano lessons are only available in Spring. To receive these piano lessons you will currently pay $70 for 8 lessons. No instructor is listed yet. The website states that piano lessons will be given in the "Roland electronic piano library"2. To receive these piano lessons, students will need to purchase a specific music book to use in class. Please view the website3 for dates and times for these piano lessons.

Private Piano Lessons. Private piano lessons are also offered. These piano lessons are determined on an individual basis. Private piano lessons run for 10 weeks through the Ohio University quarter schedule and 5 weeks over the summer. Private piano lessons run from 30-60 minutes. Your fee for private piano lessons is based on the length of time you choose for your lesson and the experience of the instructor. Pricing can be found on the Registration Form3 and varies from $60 for 30 minutes with a student instructor for private piano lessons to $195 for 60 minutes of private piano lessons with an affiliate faculty instructor. This information was for Summer 2009 lessons. Piano lessons starting for Fall Quarter may have different pricing information when the new Registration Form is available.

Athens Community Music School also offers need-based scholarships4 for those who wish to receive their music lessons, including piano lessons. The form is in pdf format.

    No need for piano lessons here. In fact, I'm still trying to unload an ancient piano in poor shape. I can't even give it away!

    I had many piano lessons, and wish I had taken them seriously. I even had a piano teacher who was the conductor at the Ocean City New Jersey Music Pier. Shows how little sense I demonstrated as a kid.
