Ebay is great for finding hard to find artists and manufacturers, as well as one-of-a-kind pieces that you just can't find anywhere else. However, remember to start looking early in the year. If you wait until too close to the Christmas season, the bidding can get pretty aggressive and you may end up paying much more than those one of a kind pieces are worth.

I like this site because they carry many high end European pieces that are hard to find elsewhere like Inge Glass and Polonaise. His exquisite, jewel encrusted pieces are world famous (and also some of the most expensive around: they start at around $100 and go up from there). If you've never seen any of his work, check out the site. But, if possible, I highly recommend seeing them in person at your local department store. Pictures just don't do these works of art justice.
