Where to Find Retired Scents from Yankee Candle Company

Robert Borden
Yankee Candle Company makes a wide variety of scented candles, and sometimes one of their fragrances is so "true to life" that it evokes a special memory or takes you back in time to a certain place. Because of the need to always be coming out with something new, Yankee Candle frequently "retires" scents and discontinues making a particular candle. When you've fallen in love with a Yankee scent that is retired, it can be a heart-breaking experience. Fortunately, if you know where to look, you can still find many Yankee Candle fragrances long after they have been retired. Here are some great sources of retired & discontinued Yankee Candles:

1. Your Local Yankee Candle Store. Yankee Candle usually doesn't put fragrances on sale even after they have been retired, so if your favorite scent was recently discontinued, there's a chance it is still available at a local store. Yankee Candle stores also accepts candles for exchange from unsatisfied customers, so if you get to be friendly with the staff at your local store and let them know which fragrance you are looking for, there's always a chance that someone will return a retired scent and the staff will be able to hold it for you.

2. Local gift & card shops that sell Yankee Candles. Places like Hallmark, Bed Bath & Beyond, and other Yankee Candle "wholesale" stores will often still be selling candles that were retired long ago. These locations don't have as much of a push to make room for new merchandise as the Yankee Candle owned stores do, so they will often hold a candle until it sells. I have had a lot of luck finding discontinued Yankee Candle fragrances at card stores in my area. If you pass by a store that sells Yankee Candles, it never hurts to stop-in real quick to see what hidden treasures you might find.

3. Online gift websites. Many independently owned card and gift websites sell Yankee Candles, and you can often find retired fragrances by checking these sites out. A quick search of the Google Shopping engine will turn up many discontinued Yankee Candles. You can even set up an alert from Google so you'll get an e-mail every time a new item matching your description is added to their database.

4. Online auction sites like eBay. Finally, eBay can be a great place to find discontinued Yankee Candles. You can find just about every Yankee Candle scent ever made on eBay, and most of the candles that have been retired in the past few years sell for close to their original retail price. If you are looking for a fragrance that was retired years ago, however, you might need to be prepared to cough up some big bucks. I've seen very rare Yankee Candles go for almost $100/each on eBay. But, if you simply must have that one particular fragrance, eBay can be a great place to look.
