Where to Find Shrunken Blazers

A List of Stores that Carry One of This Season's Top Trends

The shrunken blazer look seems to be everywhere. You can dress up a T-shirt with the blazer, or add color and femininity with a ruffled blouse. Either way, a blazer makes any outfit look pulled together. Plus, these blazers seems to be everywhere this season. As a result, you can find the trend at just about any price point, color and fabric.

Value: This is actually part of a school uniform, but this blazer is anything but boring or simple. Interest is added with a rounded collar and three-quarter bell sleeves. It is made of out of a navy twill material. I think it looks good with a floral dress or skinny jeans with ankle boots. The only downside is that it only comes in navy.

School Days: If you want the look on the cheap, but don't want to sacrifice shape and quality, head to JC Penney's boys department for the Van Heusen single-breasted jacket in navy. The jacket, though long-sleeved for a child, will hit you right at the three-quarter mark. This is a casual look good with jeans for a pulled-together weekend look. If you want to personalize the look swap out the standard buttons for something jeweled or vintage.

All in the Cuff: I like how the pre-cuffed sleeve has a contrasting color/pattern than the jacket. It adds a little bit of appeal without diverting from the overall seriousness of the jacket. Another aspect of this jacket that makes it appealing is in its longer length creating a slimming effect and elongating the body. This is something that would definitely look good with skinny jeans.

Trendy: I love the puffy sleeves, low neck and double-breasted buttons on this charcoal-colored blazer. It's from Urban Outfitters by Silence & Noise. Unlike the traditional blazer, this one has style all its own and doesn't need accessories and jewelry to add interest. It's a stand alone piece. What is also great are the three-quarter sleeves and the fact that it is a lightweight knit (polyester cotton to be more specific). If you really want to turn heads, get it in the "cobalt blue" color which is a powdery, near-violet shade.

Menswear: Well, isn't any blazer a take off of menswear? But, anyway, this blazer is essentially a men's suit jacket taken in at the waist for a woman's body. I like the fact that it has a strong shoulder line (minus any awful shoulder pads though) and a longer length. Detail in the back includes a slit/vent at the hem - all wrapped up in a lightweight charcoal grey cotton fabric. This looks good with dark denim and a slinky camisole underneath.

Tuxedo: This is like a shrunken down version of a tuxedo jacket with three-quarter sleeves. I think this is definitely more of a formal piece to add to your wardrobe for dressier events where you don't want to wear the same old cocktail dress. Wear it with a white ruffle blouse and some sparkly cocktail jewelry for a smart look.

Versatility: Wear it to work with matching slacks as part of a suit. Wear it with jeans on weekends. The Express "Strong Shoulder Jacket" is pretty versatile making the $138 price tag worth the price given the mileage you get out of it. I like the fact that the cut is relatively simple leaving you to make of it what you want with accessories. Wearing a belt over it gives you an edgy look. Wearing it over a button-down shirt with classic jewelry gives you a look for the office. The clean lines of the jacket sharpen up any look.

Tweed: Looking for a diversion to the solid colors out there? How about tweed? Where this over a white T-shirt or a crisp, white-button down shirt along with black pants for an instantly pulled together look. I like the fact that the jacket is not too heavy, which adds unnecessary weight to the overall look.
