Where to Find a Summer Job Now: First Hand Account in Albuquerque, NM

Kitty Stevens
Last summer I mentored a teen that was preparing for college in Albuquerque, NM. She wanted to get a summer job to help pay for that. Your reason for getting a summer job may vary but you can't go wrong with a job that helps your local community and saves money for college. This is my first hand account of where to find a summer job now in Albuquerque, NM.

The United States government through Michelle Obama has a program that is able to give your employment and save for college at the same time. My mentee did just that this past year. I was blown away. This is the perfect program for your teen just before they head off to college. The only caveat is the age. You must be 17 years old to take this job. The program is the "Americorps". It allows you to sign up to be a part of your local community and help. My mentee did just that. She signed up and helped with a local legal firm here in Albuquerque, NM.

The program allowed her and many others to access a future that can lead to what her goals are for the future. Law is the field of study that she wants to pursue. This past summer she did just that through this summer job with Americorps. It was amazing to watch. She applied at the college and was able to begin as soon as the paperwork was processed. Now her college year has begun and she has not had to pay one single cent for her education. It is one of the very best ways to make a huge difference to your country and get ahead in your career.

She found the job through a local college here in Albuquerque, NM. Anyone in any state here in the USA can do exactly the same. There is no great secret to it. It was rewarding because she was able to help her local community and get ahead in an economy that is really getting hard.

The experience seemed really rewarding for her. I couldn't help but feel proud of what she was able to accomplish. In a time where most people cannot even find a job, this teen was able to support herself through the summer after emancipation form a family life that was difficult and prepare herself for college.
