Where to Find a Toggle Coat

Suggestions of Where to Buy at Every Price Point

Whether you live in a part of the world where it's already warming up, or if you live somewhere where it will be cold for quite a few more months, now is the perfect time to buy a toggle coat. Retailers are offering super bargains, and the lackluster holiday sales means inventory is still available to pick from.

The toggle coat always looks dressy and has a sort of academic air to it. But if you want a little bit of personality, a lot of retailers offer a range of colors and lengths. Here are a few of my suggestions.

Riley Plaid Bomber - Delias: It's a toggle coat, but a bomber jacket too! For a slightly edgy look, Delias carries this black plaid jacket which has a removable faux-fur hood (also comes in a navy plaid). There are two front pockets and a hidden front zipper to make sure your jacket stays closed. The regular price was $89.50, but it's on sale for $59.50. Visit www.delias.com.

Gia Toggle Coast - Delias: For a more traditional length coat, try the Gia plaid duffel coat in a brown plaid. This is a longer style that hits well above the knee, has a hood and is fully lined. The jacket normally is $89.50, but is on sale for $59.50. Visit www.delias.com.

Quilted Toggle - Rubbish: Bright black and blue plaid makes this a stand-out look. Three toggle clasps are up high at the top of the jacket. A faux-fur lining inside the jacket will help keep you warm and the cuff and hem are finished with a solid black (this also comes in a red plaid). Available at www.nordstrom.com for $43.90 (down from $88). This jacket can be found in the juniors section.

Emma Hooded Toggle w/Thinsulate - Delias: A cropped version of the toggle, the Emma style has a detachable hood and nice, wide collar. There are two flap pockets in the front and button tabs at the cuff. It comes in fun colors like green, yellow and red, but also in the more somber heather grey. The jacket has a thinsulate lining, which keeps you extra warm when it's cold out. This jacket was originally $109.50, but is selling for $79.50. Visit www.delias.com.

Hayden Toggle Coat - Delias: This jacket has a removable faux-fur hood, deep side pockets, and a front zipper. The jacket is lined with thinsulate which provides extra warmth on cold days. It has a slightly boxier cut giving you more room for layering. It comes in grey, black, red and royal blue. Originally $109.50, the jacket is now $99.50. Visit www.delias.com.

Blue Paddington Coat - Kimchi: This jacket is cute as the name would imply. This definitely has a very school-girl vibe to it. It's a wool coat with a skirted, a-line cut on the bottom. Snaps, instead of a zipper, keep the jacket closed. It comes in navy, charcoal and red and runs for $140. Visit www.urbanoutfitters.com.

Bean's Toggle Coat - L.L. Bean: Want the more traditional look? Go to L.L. Bean for it's toggle coat which comes in petite and regular sizes in colors such as navy, brown, black and tan. This is definitely meant to be utilitarian with a nylon weave to keep out cold winds. The length is 34 inches. Originally $199, the jacket is now $149. Visit www.llbean.com.

0815LovesPeach - 8.15 August Fifteenth Down Coast: This is a quilted, bomber style toggle. There's a front zipper but toggle closures and hood. This is a pretty simple jacket, but a little edgy with the bomber cut. It's also pricey at $198. Visit www.urbanoutfitters.com.

  • Toggle coats are dressy and cute at the same time.
  • Many retailers sell the style in trendy colors and plaid prints.
  • Now is the perfect time to buy a toggle with all of the sales.
