Where to Find Touhou Sheet Music for the Piano

mintyfresh
Although a hit in Japan and a niche market outside of Japan, the Touhou Project series of games is known for its bullet hell, infamous for its cast of nearly all female characters, and (depending on who you ask) for its music. As with any games that have music that appeals to players, fans of the Touhou Project series soon adapted and transposed many of the songs in the series to sheet music. While browsing on Youtube and coming across videos of people playing Touhou songs, I was curious how many transpositions and songs were out there...just to find it was actually not as easy as I would have thought to find Touhou Project sheet music. After browsing around and searching, I have listed below three websites that I have found containing decent amounts of Touhou Project sheet music for the piano. Enjoy, and if you know more sites, please leave them in the comments section!

Here you can find select arrangements for Touhou songs from Perfect Cherry Blossom, Imperishable Night, Phantasmagoria of Flower View, and Shoot the Bullet. Keep in mind the website, along with pretty much every other site listed here, is in Japanese. But simply select the song you are interested in on the left frame and you'll be taking to a page which gives you several variations of the Touhou song with easy being the easiest and the lunatic difficulty being the most difficult arrangement. Note not all the arrangements listed on this side are in Adobe's PDF format. You will find some Touhou songs in the SDF format which from what I've read, requires a program called the Kawaii Player. But as I could not get Kawaii Player to work on my computer I cannot comment directly on the SDF files.

At this site are arrangements for Touhou songs from Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, Undefined Fantastic Object, Subterranean Animism, Perfect Cherry Blossom, and Highly Responsive to Prayers. Most of the songs are not too difficult so this site is an excellent resource for those who want to play Touhou songs on the piano and are themselves just starting out or a beginner at the piano. Not to say there aren't a few technical or difficult looking songs on the site though, you just have to browse around. A nice bonus is the addition of a midi track that plays each of the songs too. But keep in mind that the playback is electronic and thus "perfect" and it is possible you may run into a piece of sheet music that may be too difficult for human hands alone.

I can't read Japanese, but whoever runs this site (assuming he is also the pianist) is very good. You can find arrangements of select Touhou songs from Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, Perfect Cherry Blossom, Imperishable Night, and Subterranean Animism on this site. While this site is not completely dedicated to Touhou but instead a collection of an enormous volume of video game music, every Touhou song I've located has an accompanying PDF file that you can download and print. Furthermore, the author also lists his own recording of the song as well as the type of piano used for the recording, so you can be sure that each Touhou song is humanely possible. Keep in mind the difficulty varies significantly from one Touhou song to another and you have to look around for the Touhou arragements as the site itself has no sorting or organizational scheme. But many of his Touhou arrangements are popular as evident by the Youtube videos of people playing this author's Touhou arrangements.

The old Kawai player coudln't work on your computer because your computer's OEM (non-Unicode) language was set to something other than Japanese (this also afflicts Touhou 6 and most PC-98 emulators). But the latest free Kawai player, ƒXƒRƒAƒvƒŒ[ƒ„[FX 3.0, is designed for Windows 2000 and above and is written in Unicode, so it should work on your computer. Here is the link:
