Where to Find a Vegan Coat (Updated 2010)

Keep Warm with Your Conscience Clear

Katri Marson
If you are like the majority of vegans the search for a winter coat is neverending and not fun. Have you ever been out searching for a new coat and looked at the label only to find the coat is made of 10 or even just 5% wool. It make you wonder if they just added it because they had scraps lying around. I have been there and have been disappointed many times. I came up short so many times that I had a jacket I got in high school that I continued to wear way past high school and way past its time. It even began to get holes in it (although the lining, not the outside.) I went as far as taking it to a seamstress to see if she could save it for me. You could tell she wanted to laugh, but instead she just told me for what it will cost I would be better off just buying a new one. If only she knew that was easier said than done.

I eventually had to face the facts and search out a new coat. Plus, I needed something nice and dressy that I could wear; my former jacket was casual. One unsuspecting day I walked into Forever 21 and saw a really nice long coat on the rack. I was sure it had wool in it, but I decided to look anyway. There was absolutely no wool. I, of course, bought it. Later I thought, I should have stocked up. It was such a nice coat I wore it to my cousins wedding. From that day on I turn to Forever 21 every year to see their selection.

I have found that Forever 21 has the best selection of anyone and the very best price. Though they do still sell the wool ones so you have to still read the label or the site. Below are some links I found to some cute wool-free coats they have this year. Sometimes when you see stuff online it is hard to tell what you are going to get, but the couple coats I bought from them online I have been more than immpressed when I received them.

When shopping at Forever 21's site, for a coat, they usually start late summer and continuously add new coats through to winter. So, if you don't find something your style early on, just keep checking back. They add new and sell out often. There is bound to be something your style that will come up. There is a down fall; Forever 21 only carries sizes up to Large and their larges do not usually run big.

Pangea (www.theveganstore.com) sells a unisex Vegan Peacoat (link below). It is not as dressy stylish as the ones I mentioned above or near as cheap, at its cost of $199.95. But, it is still nice and it supports a good vegan company.

I have found some really nice coats at JCPenney's on occassion. And, thanks to the internet the selection has gotten bigger and you can save money by having your order shipped to your nearest store. Below are some they have available this year.

Here are some links to the vegan coats I have found this year.
