Where to Find Videos of the 2010 World Equestrian Games

Jan S
The Equestrian World Games took place in Kentucky from Saturday, September 25 to Sunday, October 10, 2010. It was the first time in the history of the event that the USA has hosted it. The Equestrian World Games, also known as WEG has been held every 4 years since 1990. It is known as the horse world's version of the Olympics.

It was hoped by horse enthusiasts in the USA that by hosting the magnificent event, the TV viewers in the USA would get a front row seat to the event, but that was not to be the case. TV broadcast coverage was dismal at best. The 16 day event had approximately 5 hours of TV coverage from NBC and it was liberally sprinkled with very repetitive commercials. So horse watchers had a choice of either watch the TV broadcast or pay a fee to see the event live online. Some websites were charging as much as $79 for access to the live streaming online. It was only after the event had finished that videos of the events started to to pop up all over the internet and were free to view. Here is a list of where to find some of them:

The USEF Network
You can find most of the video highlights at the USEF website where they have driving, reining, dressage, jumping and one of my favorites vaulting. The USA team won the vaulting gold medal and you can see the video at their vaulting page. Their winning performance was not even broadcast by NBC TV, but mentioned as a "by the way" news filler. Even though the USEF has some videos they do not have videos of the other countries teams.

All the Creatures
If you want to see the French vaulting team in action with their entry into the competition go to this web page for a 10 minute video of them in action.

YouTube
You will have to do a search on YouTube for the 2010 WEG games but you will find them. Some are well done while others are just short 30 second clips of events. As people get more time to upload their videos of the event, I am sure you will start to see better quality and coverage.

The next time the World Equestrian Games will take place is in France, in 4 years time. Let's hope the TV coverage in the USA is better by then, but I doubt it.
