Vintage clothing shops and boutiques are nestled throughout the city of Chicago, with some of the best stores located in the Wrigleyville, Bucktown, and Lincoln Park neighborhoods. This can make for a pleasant afternoon walking down tree lined streets searching for boutiques nestled among the brownstones, cafes, and pizza parlors. To make the search a little easier, here are a few of Chicago's best vintage clothing shops, ranging from biker leather to backless 1920s silk evening gowns to funky 70s accessories.

The Alley is where biker leather meets retro chic. It's where you want to go for leather jackets, leather skirts, and more leather. If leather's not your thing, the Alley also has vintage T-shirts, mini skirts, jean jackets, halter tops and dresses, tunics, arm warmers, and more. Vintage styles range from the 1970s-now. The clothing offered at the Alley is new and they also feature funky clothing lines such as : Lucky Kat and Evil Kitty.

Hubba Hubba is known throughout Chicago for their great collection of accessories. Fun and flashy earrings and necklaces, sequined hand bags, shiny bracelets, and leather bags make a vintage lover drool. Hubba Hubba's clothing covers many eras but their 1960s-1970s style prints are what really stand out. A cute little boutique, Hubba Hubba is a do not miss on any vintage clothing trip.

The Silver Moon is a vintage clothing lover's heaven; filled with designer vintage gowns, day wear, formal wear, velvet gowns, wedding dresses, and designer wear. The prices are on the high-end but the clothing is in perfect condition and the Silver Moon features a large selection of vintage designer clothing. Some highlights include: Hawaiian dresses, a silk walking gown from 1905, 1950s sun dresses, and a 1940s felt jacket with a Mexican motif embroidery. The Silver Moon specializes in elegant vintage clothing from the 1900s-early 1960s.

Una Mae's Freak Boutique is a case where the name says it all. A funky sharp boutique, Una Mae's features vintage styles with a heavy emphasis on the 1970s. The minute you walk in the door, this boutique snaps with funky plastic jewelry, mini-dresses, bold stripes, and funky flower prints. Una Mae's offers new and used clothing and a smattering of local designers.

For the true vintage clothing freak, there is nothing better than the Village Discount Outlets located throughout the city. Row after row of racks filled with dresses, t-shirts, jeans, and accessories. Not to mention house wares, toys, and other thrift store staples. There is a lot of useless used clothing at the Village but with a little digging treasure can be found at every store and for a fraction of what you would pay at a high end boutique. Styles constantly change but there is usually a large portion of 1980s-1990s era clothing with most items under five dollars.

I didn't see it listed, but the 4th floor of the Belmont Army Surplus building (Clark/Belmont) is a great vintage shop owned by the couple who ran Layer in Logan Square. I guess they upgraded to a better location.
Super selection of mostly 50's through 80's stuff for guys and gals.
