Where Freedom Begins and Ends

The Question of Freedom

Chance Motta
True freedom is a fight inside of our selves though it is greatly battled with the outside world as well. The way others affect us makes us have to at times decide whether to express ourselves or keep it in. To an extent we may do what we want, but not entirely.

If something is against the law we still have the freedom to do it if we please, though there may be consequences. Another example would be choosing to walk up and punch someone in the face. Even if it hinders another's freedom you still have the freedom to do it and they have the freedom to react in whatever way they choose.

In some cases you may not have the freedom to act how you wish though. For certain people this freedom is different based upon social status and physical ability as well as other things. An example of this is a person in a wheel chair. Perhaps it's not entirely right to say they don't have the freedom to walk but even if they want to the fact is they can't. So in essence they aren't allowed the freedom.

We can obtain complete freedom only in our own mind and being. Inside we can allow ourselves to think whatever we want and feel whatever we want. We can imagine going where ever we want and think of doing what we want. In truth we are never free and will never be in this life time as far as I'm aware. People are held captive to there own bodies, though some are freer then others. We can only be free in the world once we are free from ourselves.

Freedom as a concept is fine, but without steadfastingly defending it, freedom tends to be forced to go completely inward, as the article notes. In life we can classify freedom as it is good for us as any act which doesn't do harm to another individual or the environment in which we live. As long as those two points are met, we should fight to be free to do whatever. And we shoud be aware that there is always someone trying to take freedom away from us..
