Wine classes can be fun, informational and a wonderful way for a novice to learn about this delightful beverage. They are not meant to show people how to sniff the cork and look pretentious; the point of wine classes is to help people understand and appreciate the taste of different varietals and how they can be enhanced by pairing them with certain flavors and textures of food. O'Hara and Flynn at 160 East Bay St., Charleston, SC 29401 offers wine classes on Thursday evenings from 5:30-8:30. You can make reservations or just show up if you're in the area. It's not necessary to stay for the whole two hours. They pair the wines with artisan cheeses and charcuterie. The cost is $15 per person, and on August 2 they are exploring South American wines. On Saturday, August 25th 2001 they offer Wines of Spain at 6:20 Pm for $30. On Saturday, September 22nd they offer the Wines of Italy at 6:30PM for $30. Light appetizers are paired with the wines as the instructor teaches about the different varietals of each country. The Trusted Palate at 563 King St., Charleston, SC 29401 offers private wine tastings that are essentially classes for those who wish to learn more about wine and wine tasting. They help you design a theme for your wine tasting, and then they lead the group through the fundamentals of blind tasting analysis and funneling. They also offer other wine services such as private palate tasting, wine cellar consulting, investment wine buying, and a wine club.
