Ruth Carter
You and your family are looking for a place to have an enjoyable meal together but do not have a lot of money to spend. If you live in the Roanoke, Virginia area or are just visiting, a number of restaurants offer times during which your kids can eat for free. Here are four of those eating establishments where you and your family can visit and enjoy a delicious meal together without having to break your wallet.

Tokyo Express

One restaurant at which my family and I love to eat is Tokyo Express in nearby Salem, Virginia. Tokyo Express is located at 1940 West Main Street in Salem, and you can call 540-389-6303 to place take-out orders or to contact a member of the staff.

Tokyo Express is open from 11am-9pm Sunday through Thursday and from 11am-9:30pm on Saturday. Kids can eat for free every Saturday at this fantastic restaurant with the purchase of an adult entrée. Japanese cuisine is the specialty of this fantastic eating establishment, and some of the menu options that my children enjoy are teriyaki steak, teriyaki chicken, soba noodles, California roll, sautéed broccoli, and stir fried rice. An assortment of delectable Japanese dishes is available for adult consumption, and a sushi bar is also on site for those who are lovers of sushi. Chopsticks are also available for those who wish to eat with them.

Tokyo Express is tastefully decorated in Asian décor, and the overall atmosphere is relaxed and pleasant. The food is delicious, and the staff is always helpful and friendly.

Ragazzi's

Ragazzi's is located at 3843 Electric Road in Roanoke, Virginia, and you can call 540-989-9022 to place take-out orders or to contact a member of the staff. Ragazzi's hours of operation are from 11am-10pm Monday through Saturday and from 11am-9pm on Sunday.

Kids can eat for free every Sunday from 11am-4pm (one free kid's meal per purchase of an adult entrée). This restaurant offers various dishes of Italian cuisine, and some of the kid's menu options include spaghetti, lasagna, toasted ravioli, cheese pizza, fettuccini alfredo, and tortellini. For a look at the yummy offerings for adults, check out the lunch and dinner menus at www.ragazzisroanoke.com.

Ragazzi's has a relaxed and quiet atmosphere and has an appealing décor. The entrees are scrumptious, and the staff is pleasant and caring.

Denny's

Denny's is located at 3429 Orange Avenue NE in Roanoke, Virginia, and you can call 540-344-9193 to place a take-out order or to contact a staff member. Denny's is open 24 hours a day every day of the week.

Kids can eat for free on Tuesdays from 4pm-10pm (two kid's meals per one paying adult). Denny's kid's menu hosts such favorites as spaghetti, macaroni and cheese, chicken tenders, quesadilla, cheese pizza, yogurt, veggies and ranch dressing, and grapes. To take a look at the delectable goodies for adults, visit www.dennys.com and select the menu option.

Denny's offers a relaxing, casual atmosphere, friendly staff, and appetizing food. Since Denny's is open 24 hours, you and your family can enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a midnight snack at this restaurant.

Famous Anthony's

Famous Anthony's has a multitude of locations in Roanoke, but my favorite is the one located at 3737 Challenger Avenue. You can call 540-977-2244 to order a take-out meal or to speak with a staff member. This restaurant is open from 6am-10pm Monday through Thursday, 6am-11pm on Friday, 6am-10pm on Saturday, and 7am-10pm on Sunday.

Kids can eat for free on Mondays from 3pm-10pm and on Saturdays from 12pm-10pm (a free kid's meal is available with each adult meal that is purchased). Famous Anthony's kid's menu includes such tasty treats as a ham and cheese sandwich, macaroni and cheese bites, a grilled cheese sandwich, a cheeseburger, chicken fingers, a hot dog, and spaghetti. To take a look at a breakfast or lunch and dinner menu, visit www.famousanthonys.com.

Famous Anthony's offers a bright and happy atmosphere that is almost like sitting down at your dinner table at home. The food is pleasing to the eye and to the palate, and the staff is always cheerful and helpful. Too, Famous Anthony's makes dining out more economical for families by providing two days a week that kids can eat for free.

If you and your family want to enjoy a meal out together but wish to watch your finances at the same time, keep these restaurants and their "kids eat free" hours in mind. You and your family will be glad that you did.
