Many individuals like to get to a place of solitude to pray. They look for a sanctuary of peace and quiet. People, that take the time to pray, will retreat to a garden, lakeside, mountain area, forest or just outside.
When we pray, we do more than just pray to god. We meditate, reflect and just quietly talk to ourselves. To make this a meaningful experience, we do not want distractions.
An old Catholic priest use to tell me that we enter a zone, when we pray. Everything is blocked out around us. Our total focus is on the praying process or event. Where we pray, helps create this zone.
Those of us that pray have different routines as well. We might open with a greeting or salutation. We then have a prayer. This prayer usually, but not always, might be filled with requests. These requests are usually for the needs of others and ourselves. We then finish with a brief closing.
After we have finished, we feel refreshed. Some of us look for answers to our prayers and some of us don't. We entrust results to god in his own time. However, we always have an eye open to what is going on around us and the prayer we made.
Selecting a place to pray is very important. However, we don't always find a place that works. We have to adjust to where we are. Other places to pray are our cars, closet, corner, bedroom, basement and porch.
If you have the opportunity, find your special place. It will make the prayer experience more meaningful.
Many times, we have to find a make shift area. The prayer is more important than where we are.
