It's everyone's favorite time of the year....the dreaded tax season. Below are some resources that will make the process less painful for you in the Rockford and surrounding areas.

If you have access to a home computer with printer your better off printing the forms you need from home. Most libraries will charge you for making copies.

Federal tax forms can be found online by visiting the IRS website http://www.irs.gov/formspubs/

Illinois State tax forms can be found by visiting the Illinois Department of Revenue site at http://tax.illinois.gov/TaxForms/index.htm

You can find tax forms at the libraries listed below which are available from January 1st through April 15th.
Reproducible forms and publications are available to copy at the information desk and the customer service desk.

Tax Counseling Project

Free electronic tax returns for families with incomes under $35,000 or individuals with incomes under $15,000. Assistance is being offered at the Northwest Community Center, 1325 N. Johnston Ave. in Rockford.

Tax Counseling for Seniors

Free income tax help is available, from Tax-Aide. Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) volunteers assist elderly low and middle-income taxpayers at locations in their own community at no cost. Days and times of service may change, and an appointment is required at some sites, so it is best to call first.

Individuals should bring their tax return form package, all forms including 1099, W-2 and social security records, any other tax documents or income records, and last year's tax return. Homeowners may need to know the amount of their real estate tax payment. Tax assistance has sponsored by AARP through the IRS for over 25 years.
