All week long, here in the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex, I've heard person after person talking about how they are so happy that we had the weather we did. I've heard people say it's about time Jerry Jones got his, or that Karma finally caught up with him, or that they wish the weather had been worse, as if it would somehow wipe him from the face of the Earth. So let me start by asking...
WHAT IN THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?!
Seriously? You have that much hate in your heart? Anybody who claims to hate Jerry Jones with that much passion is an idiot. Truth hurts sometimes.
"Tom Landry is laughing right now." (Uh, no he isn't. For someone to think Tom Landry would wish ill on the Cowboys organization is ludicrous)
"Jerry finally got what was coming to him." (Exactly what would that be?)
Etc., etc., etc...
Enough of the Jerry hating. It got old a long time ago. This all goes back to his firing of Tom Landry. For those who think his firing of Landry was wrong, you need to go re-read your history. When Landry was fired, the team had been to the playoffs once in five years, had not won a playoff game in six, and had suffered through three straight losing seasons. To quote Billy Joel, "The good old days weren't always good..." The game had passed Landry by and it was time for a change. If you can't see that, head over to your local optometrist. If Landry had remained, we'd be sitting here remembering the Cowboys two Super Bowl wins, instead of remembering five. Granted, Landry's firing was not handled properly, but this was 22 years ago. Get over it and move on.
Now on to more current matters. The weather this past week was terrible. But what in the holy hell makes you think that Jerry was affected in any way? None of what happened this week had anything to do with Jerry. The parties? Nope. Put on by multiple people and organizations. The 'NFL Experience' at the Dallas Convention Center? Uh, it does have the letters NFL in it. It wasn't the 'Jerry Jones Experience'. The only thing Jerry Jones was involved in was the game that ended a few hours ago. And from what I (and the rest of the world) saw, it looked pretty damned good. No, it didn't set a new attendance record, but it was just as good as any other Super Bowl. The venue was spectacular and the game was riveting. Jerry got everything he had hoped for. So I guess it sucks to be you, hater.
And one final though before I end this. Shame on you for wishing bad weather and no success for this event. You sat there and hoped this would hurt Jerry. Guess what? Jerry Jones is worth an estimated $2 billion. If you thought this would hurt him, just go ahead and smack yourself in the head right now. I'll wait. But you want to know who all this bad weather you wished for did affect? The husband and wife that owns the local restaurant. The single mother who is a waitress at one of hundreds of local restaurants and bars. The kid working his way through college as a bartender. The immigrant who came to this country for a better life, who owns a store that sold Super Bowl souvenirs. The cab driver trying to support his family. The list could go on forever. Those are the people who suffered this week. But instead of thinking of them and hoping for better weather, many chose to be petty and single-minded. Truly pathetic.
This was a chance for the DFW Metroplex to show the country that we have what it takes to be a player in the national spotlight. And instead it was filled with people who wished failure on it, simply because of some misguided hatred for one man. Chew on that for a while.
I, for one, hope DFW gets the 50th Super Bowl (it will get another, guaranteed). And I hope that next time, instead of me having to listen to a bunch of brainless people spout off about one man, those same people get off their asses and make the people who come here for the event feel welcome and excited to be here. The Super Bowl is an event that (until Dallas hosted it) only nineteen cities have hosted. Do you think for one minute that those cities wished ill on the event? I highly doubt it.
So in closing, grow up DFW. Contrary to your belief, Jerry Jones did just fine and enjoyed this week. Maybe next time, if you think positive and get into the experience, instead of whining, you just might just enjoy it, too.
