Which Online Marketing Degree is Best?

How do you know which ones are good and which ones aren't? Which ones are too expensive? Not credible? According to Fortune magazine, "Anybody who's thinking of enrolling in an online degree (should) take a good look at GetEducated.com." CNN Money says "Beware diploma mills...Go to GetEducated.com and ask the Diploma Mill Police." This site has free downloads and detailed guides with rankings, ratings and reviews for over 79 online bachelor and MBA degree programs in marketing. When filtered for accreditation by the AACSB, the list narrows to the 10 listed below. (The AACSB is the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International. It is a voluntary, non-governmental accrediting agency that oversees the standardization of collegiate schools of business and accounting nationwide.)

The AACSB mark on your online marketing degree adds prestige plus $10,000

AACSB-accredited distance MBAs cost significantly more than their regionally-accredited counterparts.
Average cost of an AACSB Online MBA: $32,926.
Average cost of a regionally accredited distance MBA, on the other hand, is only $22,924.
That's a whopping savings of $10,002.

If your budget is tight, skipping AACSB accreditation on your online MBA can save you a bundle. But, if you will be competing in an aggressive career environment, if academic prestige is important to you, or if you intend to join a business college faculty, it may be wise to get the AACSB accreditation. Also, your corporate tuition plan may only pay for an AACSB-accredited degree. So, if you don't mind taking the GRE (Graduate Records Examination) or GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test), and are confident you can score above average, then choose an AACSB distance learning marketing degree.

Why You Should Check With the Diploma Mill Police Before You Get Your Online Marketing Degree

Online marketing degree options are not only expanding, they are growing in credibility and value. With the AACSB accreditation to go by, you can't go wrong. And there are other valid accreditation sources you can verify through the Diploma Mill Police. Because as in every field, there are scams. Such as this one when Chester the pug becomes the victim of a degree mill, and is actually awarded an MBA in Marketing from Rochville University for $499, "one of scores of online universities operating from foreign post office boxes that advertise college diplomas fast-for a flat fee," (with phony accreditation), according to Vicky Philips, GetEducated founder. Chester is currently starring in this educational video:"Dog Earns Online MBA: A Cautionary Tail."

Another reference I should have included, by John Bear: * Co-Author, Bears' Guide to Earning Degrees by Distance Learning (widely regarded as a standard reference book in this field; over 400,000 in print).

Linda, as you know, I put a lot of research into my articles. I can tell that you really spent a lot of time on the research for this. I'm putting this on Twitter and sharing with some friends. One thing, be very careful about the validity of your program, no matter what. I have a friend who is physically disabled who thought online learning would be so good for her. She chose a "Christian" school, assuming that with that identity it would be safe. But it wasn't. I'm not dumping on anything "Christian," just pointing out that some people who identify themselves with that name aren't.
