Where Are the Miami Dolphins Headed in 2008?

GM Randy Mueller Firing Only the Beginning

Michael Grisso
Pink slips are flyin' all around the Miami Dolphins coaching staff and players as GM Randy Mueller was fired early today. Its only the beginning and leaves several open questions on how this football squad is going to bounce back from a dismal 1-15 season. With four months until the NFL draft, Parcells must clear out the bad apples he believes are the cancer of the organization and plant new seeds to grow and build on.

It all started with Mueller who was hired in 2005 for his service in front offices all around the league for as much as two decades. After coach Nick Saban left to coach Alabama, Mueller was became in control with the decisions of players. He was immediately ridiculed for his choices in the 2007 NFL draft when he chose former Ohio State wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. and BYU quarterback John Beck. It seemed all downhill from there as he continued throughout the year running the show, but fans wanted him out after they let wide receiver Chris Chambers go who is now with the #3 seed San Diego Chargers.

While Parcells will have to find a new GM and possibly half of a coaching staff there are plenty of bright spots to look forward to in 2008. With securing a 1-15 record this season they have locked up the #1 pick the 2008 NFL Draft. Who they pick will be as good of a guess as any, but the smash mouth football that Parcells is known for he may go after defense first and grab LSU Defensive Tackle Glenn Dorsey as the first overall pick.

Others feel that Arkansas running back and Heisman runner-up Darren McFadden would make the best immediate impact for a team in this kind of situation. One question that will need to be answered is if running back Ronnie Brown will be suitable to continue his career in Miami after a season ending leg injury this year. If he's out, McFadden may be in, if he can go most likely Dorsey or even an offensive tackle like Jake Long from Michigan.

This year's draft will be critical as they also will get not one but two second round picks to go along with the first overall. They have serious needs on defense, Tom Capers the defensive coordinator wanted out of Miami halfway through the season, if Cameron gets the boot they will need a new head coach. Their is just too many questions and not enough answers to be able to predict where the Miami Dolphins will be when the season starts next year. We only know that they've found one of the best men for the job in Bill Parcells. With all the bells and whistles that came along with his new position it may be safe to say the Big Tuna will retire in Florida.

lol, yep Molly we surely can. I was watching lasting weekend here in Cincy and Dan Marino said, "My prediction for next year's team is I think they will at least double their win total" or something like that but it was hilarious. Thanks Katy :) Glad it sucked you in!

I have to comment on your first paragraph here. You did well in painting a visual for your readers and such good way with words, too.

I think we can confidently say they will most likely be better off next year.

good points Brian it is a steal. I'm not sure I would say Chambers is an underachiever averaging around 60 receptions, 800-900 yards and 6 or 7 touchdowns a year when he had jay fiedler, brian griese, cleo lemon throwing to him. I know someone else was there too I can't remember who (not Culpepper, but someone else). Anyways, hope Parcells can do something with that pick :)

There's plenty of reasons to dislike Muller but getting a second-round draft pick for Chambers in-season isn't one of them. Hardly any trades are made during the year and a first-day draft pick for a career underachiever like Chambers is a steal. Remember, Randy Moss was only worth a fourth-round pick this past year.

isn't that the truth, good ol' R.W. and not McQuarters, lol. Tony, Billy needs somethin' I think he'll retire there. Plenty of time :)

with their defense aged like it is, Dorsey is going to be the better pick-but they're def in a quandry-cuz they need a running back, too-basically, ever since Ricky Williams fouled them all up.

Parcells may need some divine intervention with this struggling franchise...but, time will correct this. Remember how long Indy was inept...
