When visiting the website for the very first time my attention was immediately drawn to the author listings. The authors are listed in alphabetical order. When you click on a name you immediately see a listing of all the books they have written and the years they were published, in order by date. Books that belong to a series are listed separately in the order of publication date. This feature is especially useful to readers who like to read series' in the order in which they were written.
There is also an alphabetical listing for characters. Finding that you have run out of books to read by your favorite author or ones that feature your favorite character can be frustrating. Check out the Read Alikes section where you can find authors and categories similar to the ones that you already love. This is a great way to discover new authors and characters.
What's New is the page at SYKM that tells what new characters and authors have been added each month. There are separate pages for new hardcover releases, audio releases, and new paperback releases, which again, are organized by the month in which they were published. In addition, these are archived so you can check out what has published in the past.
Another page is dedicated to the various mystery book awards and the authors who have won them. The Location Index helps site users to find characters based on the location of their home, while the Job Index lists characters by their employment. Also available is a Historical Period Index that lists books by their historical period and a Diversity Index which breaks characters down into social and ethnic groups.
If you prefer to keep up to date on the latest publications by email there is a twice monthly email newsletter that announces additions to the website as well as new publications.
There are five magazines devoted to mysteries and SYKM has a page devoted to each of them.
This is an amazing site that has everything the avid mystery reader would want to know. The information I have found here has always been correct, which is attributable to the great resources that are listed on the site.
Bonny Brown developed the site in 1998. Lucinda Surber and Stan Ulrich currently maintain it.

love the article!
I sell books online, and I've gotten to the point that mysteries are the only novels I stock. They're the only ones that sell decently. It definitely seems that people love mysteries best, and feel that they have the most lasting value.
How wonderful :)
